We are looking to recruit two dynamic, experienced and self‑motivated nurses or AHPs into this exciting new Nutrition Practitioner role. We have funding for 1.6wte positions to work across our two acute hospitals: Conquest and EDGH. You will work with adult inpatients, the acute medical, surgical and gastro teams and the dietitians to support delivery of excellent nutritional care, primarily with those patients requiring artificial nutrition support.


Main duties of the job

You will work as an integral member of multi-disciplinary teams and the Nutrition & Dietetic service, acting as an expert in the management of complex patients requiring artificial nutrition support and providing advice, support and training to staff, in line with evidence based practise.

The role of Nutrition Practitioner involves working as an expert clinical practitioner alongside the Nutrition and Dietetic team supporting the safe and effective provision of nutrition interventions within the Trust.

The post holder will provide nutrition leadership and professional advice to the Trust and support the development and implementation of the Trust Nutrition Strategy.

To carry out scoping and impact assessment to demonstrate the clinical benefits, safety improvements and efficiencies associated with having a Nutrition Practitioner in post.

The Nutrition Practitioner will work in close partnership with the Head of Dietetics, Dietetic Advanced Practitioners, dietitians, nurses, members of the Nutrition and Hydration steering group and multi-disciplinary clinical leads, General Practitioners and education colleagues to design and implement innovative efficient and accessible models of care that promote equity of access across a wide demographic of patients.

Person Specification


Qualifications

* Current State Registration with Health Professional Council or NMC
* Evidence of continued professional development to Masters level or equivalent level of knowledge and experience
* Postgraduate training in behavioural change techniques


Experience

* Extensive experience in acute hospitals and evidence of specialist interest in nutrition
* Experience of enteral nutrition and parenteral nutrition
* Undertaking new patient assessment and treatment
* Conducting patient and other health professional group education
* Previous experience of MDT working
* Previous experience of using clinical systems for record keeping
* Experience of working closely with dietitians and gastroenterology
* Training of Students


Skills

* Sound clinical knowledge based on current best practice.
* Knowledge of current issues and research relating to nutrition
* NICE guidelines relating to clinical nutrition
* Communicate information accurately, effectively and sensitively, both verbal and written
* Communicate with professionals at all levels
* Relay sensitive and emotional information to patients
* Excellent verbal, written and active listening skills
* Motivate others using negotiation and influencing skills
* To be able to write detailed reports and maintain accurate records
* Teaching / supervisory skills on a one to one and group basis
* Good interpersonal skills
* To work as part of a team and independently as required
* Ability to organise, prioritise own workload and work under own initiative
* Good time management
* To cope with unpredictable workload patterns
* Work under pressure to achieve deadlines
* Good keyboard and IT skills including knowledge of Microsoft Office - Word and Outlook
* Knowledge and experience of various enteral feeding tubes
* Experience of assessing suitability for and placing feeding tubes in complex patients
* Experience in use of intravenous feeding routes

This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service (formerly known as CRB) to check for any previous criminal convictions.

£49,387 to £56,515 a year per annum, pro rata
