The Band 6 Nurse within the Plastics Trauma Department is a senior clinical practitioner responsible for delivering high-quality, evidence-based nursing care to adult and paediatric patients presenting with traumatic injuries requiring plastic and burns reconstructive management.
Main duties of the job
1. The post holder will be expected to support both adult and paediatric pathways,
2. Leadership
3. Clinical expertise in the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of care for patients with complex soft tissue injuries, burns, hand trauma, facial trauma, and post-operative reconstructive needs.
4. Working autonomously
5. Working collaboratively within the multidisciplinary team
6. Inpatient, and outpatient settings.
7. Wound care management
8. Surgical aftercare
9. Safeguarding responsibilities
10. Coordination of complex discharge planning.
11. Supervision, mentorship, and support to junior nursing staff and students.
12. Clinical governance, audit, quality improvement initiatives,
13. Adherence to national and local policies.
14. Strong organisational skills

Experience
Essential criteria
15. Post degree qualification in Burns/ plastics/ wound management/ emergency care or experience
Desirable criteria
16. Recent experience within the Plastic Surgery and burns speciality field
17. Experience within theatre
18. Wide clinical experience as a nurse
19. Ability to work as part of a team
20. Initiative to work on own
Education, Qualifications & Training
Essential criteria
21. Good general education
22. Registered Adult or Paediatric Nurse to degree level or equivalent
Skills, Abilities & Knowledge
Essential criteria
23. Ability to communicate clearly with patients and multidisciplinary team members
24. Ability to write clear and legibly In English
25. Knowledge of theatre protocols
26. Self Motivated
27. Computer skills and Good time management skills
Desirable criteria
28. Ability to manage own caseload with supervision
29. Knowledge and experience of the role of a Band 6
30. Knowledge of the Code of Professional Conduct
31. Knowledge of the Data Protection act
