What We Do

Everyone has an idea of what a water company does. Here in Yorkshire, we make sure that over 5.4 million people living in the region and the millions of visitors each year can rely on our services, with access to clean and safe drinking water and proper wastewater management. But for us, it's so much more than this.

We look after communities, protect the environment, and plan for Yorkshire's water needs today, tomorrow, 24/7, 365 days a year. We provide essential water and wastewater services across the region, playing a key role in health, wellbeing, and prosperity.

New environmental legislation, significant investments, and evolving customer expectations make this an exciting time to explore opportunities within the water industry. We are committed to meeting these changing needs through innovation and excellence.

What will the role involve?

As part of expanding our Supply Chain & Logistics team, we seek a highly experienced workshop professional to support the development and delivery of a multi-skilled workshop from the ground up.

When we say from the ground up, we mean exactly that! The successful candidate will work with the Project Lead to source equipment, recruit a new multi-skilled team, design workshop layout and workflow processes, develop safe working procedures, and create training plans.

This is a unique opportunity to be instrumental in delivering this new activity within Yorkshire Water. Once established, the role will oversee daily operations, work with continuous improvement teams to optimize processes, and develop SLAs and KPIs for performance management.

While the primary focus will be on pumping equipment, the function will deliver a broad scope of services, including mechanical & electrical repair, overhaul, machining, fabrication, and diesel overhaul and repair.

Management and Leadership Skills

* Leadership and Communication: Ability to lead teams, communicate effectively, and give clear instructions.
* Budgeting and Resource Management: Skilled in managing budgets, staffing, and procurement.
* Planning and Scheduling: Ability to organize workshop activities, tasks, and projects.
* Interpersonal and Teamwork Skills: Ability to work well with others and foster positive relationships.
* Problem-Solving and Decision-Making: Strong analytical skills to address challenges and make informed decisions.

The Engineering Workshop Manager will focus on three key areas, with responsibilities including:

* Engineering Services: Develop and lead this new activity, ensuring compliance with legislation and industry standards (ISO, ATEX, UKAS).
* Driving Productivity: Lead stakeholder management, improve construction productivity, and utilize data to reduce cycle times and waste.
* Driving Cultural Change: Promote performance improvement, collaboration, innovation, and a culture of continuous improvement within Yorkshire Water and partners.

What skills are we looking for?

The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in a complex engineering environment, excellent communication skills, and the ability to build effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders. An Engineering Degree or equivalent is preferred, along with a proven track record in the discipline.

You should have demonstrable understanding of what good practice looks like and how it works.

Although we operate 24/7, we support flexible working patterns and job sharing options to help balance work and home life. We recognize that juggling responsibilities isn't always easy.

Do we sound like your cup of tea?

If you have engineering experience and want to help us deliver excellent service while caring for the environment, apply today to explore a career with Yorkshire Water.

If selected, you will undergo pre-employment checks, including a Basic Disclosure, and possibly security vetting (Counter Terrorist Check or Security Check). All roles require medical questionnaires and further medicals as needed.

We are committed to accessibility and providing adjustments for applicants with disabilities or specific needs. Please mention any requirements in your application.

Kelda Group reserves the right to close this position early. We encourage prompt applications.
