Nightingale House Hospice have an opportunity for a Speciality Doctor to join our team on a permanentbasis. This would suit someone who ismotivated, flexible and who has an interest in palliative care and is lookingto develop their experience and skills in this area in a supportiveenvironment. The role will be within the Medical Team and work closely with theMedical Director. There will be opportunities to participate in education andaudit, as well as to deliver excellent care to patients and their loved ones inour 12 bedded inpatient unit and in outpatients.
The role will be based at the hospice, joining our friendly,knowledgeable, experienced and well-supported multi professional team in ourbrand new redeveloped Inpatient Unit and wellbeing centre. Your role will be to deliver medical and specialist palliative care to patients inour Inpatient Unit and wellbeing centre,in a holistic manor, considering social, emotional and spiritual health as wellas physical symptoms. Our aim is to provide individualised care, seeing thepatient behind the diagnosis, so they can achieve the best possible quality oflife with their loved ones. There willbe excellent support for personal development and opportunities for qualityimprovement work.
Main duties of the job
Main responsibilities
* Admit patients to the inpatient unit for end-of-life care, symptom management or respite
* provide care for inpatients and outpatients
* To identify and address the physical, psychological, spiritual and social needs of patients and the emotional, spiritual and psychological needs of their families and friends
* Work closely with and support the nursing team and wider MDT
* Communicate compassionately with patients and their families
* Complete administrative tasks arising from medical work
* Liaise closely with external partners such as GPs, Specialist Palliative Care Team (SPCT), district nurses, specialist clinical nurses and secondary care
* To promote and participate in teaching and educational activity

Job Summary
Asa speciality doctor in palliative care, you will work within the medical teamat Nightingale House Hospice to provide a high standard of medical care topatients admitted to the inpatient unit for symptom management, end of lifecare or respite, as well as patients attending outpatients or the wellbeingprogramme. This post offers an opportunity to develop palliative careexperience and skills, with SPA time and a culture of learning and developingprofessionally. You will also have the opportunity to participate in audit,teaching of GP registrars, medical students and disseminating knowledge to thewider team.
Themedical team consists of the medical director, 2 speciality doctors (includingyou), 1 GP registrar and 2 advanced nurse practitioners. We work withpalliative care consultants who remotely review the patients twice a week, at aboard round. You will work alongside the nursing team, pharmacist, patientflow, rehab, family support team, chaplain and complementary therapist todeliver care to patients with life limiting conditions. You will deliverindividualised, holistic care to patients and their loved ones, with empathy,compassion and kindness, respecting patients dignity and with an aim toempower them to live well with a palliative diagnosis.
Main responsibilities
Admitpatients to the inpatient unit for end-of-life care, symptom management orrespite.
Alongwith the rest of the medical team, nursing team and consultants, provide carefor inpatients, outpatients and patients attending wellbeing or rehabappointments if needed, including initial assessment, daily reviews, planningand management.
Toidentify and address the physical, psychological, spiritual and social needs ofpatients and the emotional, spiritual and psychological needs of their familiesand friends.
Workclosely with and support the nursing team and wider MDT, maintaining positiveworking relationships and close teamwork.
Communicatecompassionately with patients and their families regarding their condition,treatment, prognosis and advanced care planning.
Participatein weekend rota (1:4 weekends), being on-site Saturday and Sunday 9 to 5.
Participatein clinical meetings as part of the MDT.
Completeadministrative tasks arising from medical work discharge summaries, lettersfollowing outpatient appointments, death certificates, coroners reports.
Liaiseclosely with external partners such as GPs, Specialist Palliative Care Team,district nurses, specialist clinical nurses and secondary care.
Developand maintain high professional standards within the service and promotemultidisciplinary team working.
Topromote and participate in teaching and educational activity, teaching medicalstudents, GP registrars, colleagues, patients and families.
Toparticipate in clinical governance activities e.g. quality improvementactivities and ensure implementation of best practice guidelines.
Promotethe ethos of audit in the organisation and where possible participate inclinical audit
Tomaintain personal development through personal development reviews, monthly 1:1meetings, clinical supervision, training, SPA time and appropriate courses,which the hospice will support.
Engagein the appraisal process, the organisation has the required arrangements inplace and ensures all doctors have an annual appraisal with a trained appraiserand supports doctors going through the revalidation process.

Qualifications
* Medical Degree MBChB or equivalent
* Full GMC Registration

Experience
* 3 years post registration experience, including 1 year's relevant experience in allied specialities (e.g., GP, general medicine)
