Junior Product Developer
Role Mission
To support the Product Development across Blacksmith Store and our in-house brands in bringing high-quality apparel to market. This role helps translate design concepts into well-executed products by assisting with fit, technical development, supplier communication, day to day administration, filing and organisation. While learning the end-to-end product development process and keeping the consumer, quality and cost in mind.
Key Responsibilities
Product Development Support
* Assist in the development of apparel styles from design handover through to bulk readiness
* Support the creation, updating and maintenance of tech packs, spec sheets and product data to clearly communicate design, fit and construction details
* Help manage sample tracking, comments and approvals in line with the seasonal critical path
* Support development of priority styles under guidance from senior team members
* Assist with resolving basic construction, fabric, trim and fit issues with suppliers
Fit & Technical Assistance
* Prepare for and attend fit sessions, taking accurate measurements and detailed fit notes
* Support senior team members in communicating fit and construction feedback to suppliers
* Help ensure garments meet agreed fit, quality and performance standards
* Learn to identify construction, pattern and fabrication issues and propose solutions with guidance
Design & Cross-Functional Collaboration
* Work closely with Design to help refine concepts prior to vendor engagement
* Assist with fabric and trim sourcing tasks, including lab dips, strike-offs and approvals
* Support New Product Development (NPD) styles by helping coordinate trims and materials
* Liaise with Merchandising, QA and Production teams to ensure clear information sharing
Supplier & Data Management
* Support communication with suppliers regarding samples, comments and timelines
* Help maintain accurate records in PLM / ERP systems and internal trackers
* Assist in organising supplier visits, fittings and sample reviews where required
* Support sustainability and ethical compliance initiatives as directed
Process & Timeline Support
* Assist in managing the Product Development calendar and key milestones
* Help ensure samples and information are delivered on time for seasonal reviews
* Support clean and accurate handovers to Production
Skills & Experience
Essential
* 1–3 years’ experience in Product Development, Garment Technology or a related role (or strong internship experience)
* Basic understanding of garment construction, fit and fabrics
* Proficiency in Microsoft Excel
* Strong attention to detail and organisational skills
* Clear and professional communication skills
* Eagerness to learn and develop technical and commercial knowledge
Desirable
* Exposure to supplier communication or overseas manufacturing
* Interest in sustainability and ethical sourcing
* Proficiency in Adobe Illustrator
