The role
Safety is at the heart of everything we do at SSE. You will champion high safety standards, build strong relationships, and help drive improvements that make a real difference across our marine operations.
You will
* Provide visible marine safety leadership, promoting high standards of safety, health and wellbeing across project and delivery phases.
* Lead and support a team of Marine Safety Advisors, ensuring proportionate, risk‑based input to all marine activities.
* Monitor and analyse safety performance, offering meaningful insight and assurance through governance and reporting forums, oversee contractor assurance and drive continuous improvement.
* Plan and conduct safety visits, audits and assurance activities across vessels, ports, offshore worksites and HDD operations.
* Strengthen marine risk management by helping teams identify hazards, demonstrate ALARP and establish effective controls for key risks (e.g. SIMOPS, lifting, crew transfers, weather, emergency response).
You have
* Substantial experience managing safety, health and environment in marine settings, including vessel‑based operations and marine construction or installation.
* A postgraduate qualification in Health and Safety Management, such as a NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent, and chartered IOSH status (or working towards it).
* Strong, practical knowledge of UK health and safety legislation across complex delivery environments, including maritime requirements and CDM 2015. Experience in a technical discipline, ISO 45001 auditing and familiarity with the UK marine regulatory environment are desirable.
* Proven stakeholder management skills, with the ability to provide clear, risk‑based advice across design, delivery, contractor and vessel operator interfaces.
* Medically fit to travel and work on vessels, at ports and quaysides, and at offshore locations as required. Travel within the UK is expected and a valid UK Driving Licence is essential.
