Senior Occupational Therapist (Band 7 equivalent)

Cromwell Hospital, SW5 0TU

Full Time – 37.5 hours a week. Competitive salary.


Job Description

At Cromwell Hospital we are looking for a highly skilled Occupational Therapist who can undertake all aspects of clinical duties as an autonomous practitioner within the adult Occupational Therapy services.

They will provide client‑centred and evidence‑based assessments, interventions and discharge planning to adults with varied and often complex needs both in an inpatient and outpatient setting within the Hospital.

Referrals to the OT service are received from inpatient wards including AICU, Acute Admissions Unit, Urgent Care Centre, consultants, GP clinics and other external routes, including self‑referrals.

You will be experienced in providing a world‑class service to a caseload covering commonly neurology/neurorehabilitation, surgery, orthopaedics, general medicine and oncology.

As the Senior Occupational Therapist, you will work closely with the Therapy team and the wider multidisciplinary team and actively contribute to the smooth running of the OT and wider Therapy services. You will support senior staff and assist with activities such as service development, business growth, clinical governance, learning and development, and supervision.


Key Responsibilities

* Act as a resource of specialist advice for clients, customers, and colleagues within your scope of experience and knowledge.
* Establish and maintain efficient communication within the multidisciplinary team to ensure holistic and complete duty of care.
* Assist senior staff in day‑to‑day management and development of the Therapy Department and your area of speciality to ensure an efficient and safe service.
* Participate in hospital and departmental processes that support and encourage professional and personal development of yourself and your colleagues.
* Promote and adhere to all hospital and departmental policies and procedures.
* Take responsibility for ensuring wellbeing, health & safety and cleanliness across the department and hospital.
* Support Bupa's vision, mission and values and inspire others by leading by example.


Essential Qualifications

* Degree or Diploma in Occupational Therapy.
* HCPC registration.


Desirable Qualifications

* RCOT membership.
* Competence in wheelchair prescription, hands and splinting.
* Experience working in an AICU setting and teaching others.


Essential Experience and Knowledge

* Proven knowledge, experience and competencies in assessing and managing a variety of physical conditions, specifically neurology and including general medicine, surgery, orthopaedics, and oncology.
* Previous exposure to managing critically unwell patients.
* Competence in discharge planning and equipment needs assessment, including 24‑hour postural management and ADLs.
* Sound knowledge of the UK Social Care system and community services.
* Previous participation in integrated governance and service development activities.
