We are currently looking for a Maintenance Fitter - Mechanical to join our team based at Tarmac Cairneyhill Quarry and Asphalt Plant, Caldercruix, Airdrie (near Glasgow). This site is accessible from Glasgow, Falkirk, Grangemouth, Broxburn, Carluke, Bellshill, Hamilton, Kirkintilloch, Rutherglen, Bishopbriggs, and the surrounding areas.

Role Responsibilities

Reporting to the Site Management Team, the Maintenance Fitter - Mechanical role is part of the 24/7 engineering function at Cairneyhill Quarry and Asphalt Plant in Airdrie. As a Maintenance Fitter - Mechanical, you will be responsible for:

1. Responding to plant breakdowns – ensuring assets are returned to production in a timely manner, and temporary fixes are followed up with a permanent solution.
2. Undertaking emergency breakdown repairs efficiently on all production equipment.
3. Owning small-scale projects and delivering them pragmatically and proactively.
4. Taking a cost-conscious approach to maintenance activities.
5. Coordinating with contractors and suppliers on site.
6. Participating in root cause analysis to eliminate repeat failures.
7. Contributing to continuous improvement through observations and experience.
8. Welding and fabricating to a good standard.
9. Working with risk assessments and method statements.
10. Contributing to safe working methods for repairs.
11. Maintaining and promoting health & safety rules and regulations, following all company processes and procedures.
12. Challenging unsafe conditions and practices, reporting through company procedures.
13. Utilising the computerised maintenance management system to record all work, fault descriptions, spares used, and repairs.

The Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate will be self-motivated, enthusiastic, and able to work with minimal supervision. Proven experience in an industrial or factory environment is essential. Suitable candidates will:

1. Have a recognised apprenticeship (preferably higher-level).
2. Possess ONC/HNC (desirable but not essential).
3. Have a strong mechanical systems background, with heavy industry experience preferred (conveyors, drive systems, motors, belts, pumps, gearboxes, crushers, vibratory screens).
4. Have fault-finding skills to identify defects and recommend actions.
5. Be capable of emergency repairs on all production equipment.
6. Be IT literate, capable of using PCs and company systems.
7. Assess SHE risks and control them accordingly.
8. Know site-specific SHE procedures and safe working practices.
