Job Overview
To work alongside the management team to support the planning, coordination, and delivery of high-quality care for residents. As Shift Lead, you will take overall responsibility for the smooth running of the shift, ensuring that care is delivered safely, effectively, and in line with policies and procedures.
You will provide strong leadership on shift, acting as the main point of contact for staff and taking responsibility for decision-making, particularly in urgent or emergency situations. The role requires confidence, accountability, and the ability to lead a team while maintaining high standards of care.
Main Duties & Responsibilities
* Take overall responsibility for the day‑to‑day running of the shift, ensuring safe, effective, and person‑centred care delivery.
* Lead, support, and supervise Healthcare Assistants, acting as a role model and promoting best practice at all times.
* Provide clear direction and guidance to staff, ensuring tasks are appropriately delegated and completed to a high standard.
* Take charge in emergency situations, responding promptly, coordinating staff effectively, and ensuring appropriate action is taken to safeguard residents.
* Be confident in managing incidents, including medical emergencies, falls, or safeguarding concerns, ensuring accurate reporting and escalation where required.
* Prioritise workloads effectively and adapt to changing needs throughout the shift.
* Ensure care plans and risk assessments are accurate, up to date, and regularly reviewed, supporting a person‑centred approach.
* Monitor the wellbeing of residents and elevate concerns appropriately to the management team.
* Ensure all documentation is completed clearly, accurately, and in a timely manner.
* Promote a safe environment for residents, staff, and visitors at all times.
* Maintain effective communication with residents, families, and the wider team.
* Support the induction, mentoring, and ongoing development of staff members.
* Ensure compliance with organisational policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
* Contribute to continuous improvement within the service, supporting audits and quality assurance processes.
* Be confident in providing first aid and basic life support where required.
