Our cohort of Visiting Music Teachers (VMTs) allows us to offer an impressive array of musical opportunities for our students.
VMTs have a direct billing relationship with the parents / guardians of their students. The School sets a minimum charge for lessons and applies a Facility Charge for use of the resources within the School.
The School believes that music plays an important part in the education of young people. The Music Departments at both Schools comprise a Head or Director of Music as well as a curricular music teacher. There is also a Head of Strings and a Head of Wind, Brass and Percussion that work across both Schools to support the various bands, groups, orchestras, ensembles and choirs, as well as teach their respective instruments.
Both our Junior and Senior School campuses are ideally situated in the Stockbridge area, with the Junior School found next to the Botanic Gardens and the Senior School at Henderson Row. Visiting Music Teachers are welcomed into the School community and given the use of the School's resources and facilities as above.
The Edinburgh Academy is seeking to engage an experienced and enthusiastic Bassoon Teacher from January 2026. We anticipate this will require a commitment of one half day of teaching per week, growing into a full day.
We welcome applications from well-qualified music graduates with relevant teaching qualifications and/or experience, with a proven track record in teaching pupils from primary to S6. The successful candidate will be an enthusiastic person with a passion to develop the bassoon programme at The Edinburgh Academy. Teaching can be situated across both Junior and Senior sites of the Edinburgh Academy.
The Academy sets a minimum charge for lessons and requires the VMT to pay a Facility Charge for the use of resources within the School. As a self-employed VMT, there is a direct relationship between the VMT and parent and the VMT handles invoicing parents directly in respect of their agreed tuition fees.
The VMT may have the opportunity for group coaching, and be engaged throughout the year to support school rehearsals or competitions such as the Edinburgh Competition Festival, St Giles’ at 6, Queen’s Hall concerts, School Burns’ Suppers, Speakers Dinners, end of year events etc. Such involvement would be remunerated at the hourly rate for that year.
Conditions of Appointment
The appointment will be subject to interview and audition, satisfactory references, verification of identity, verification of right to work in the UK, and proof of qualifications.
Child Protection
The Edinburgh Academy is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, and applicants must be willing to undergo child protection screening appropriate to the post, including checks with past employers and PVG Disclosure Scotland.
Equal Opportunities
The school is an Equal Opportunities employer and welcomes applications for this post from appropriately qualified persons regardless of age, disability, gender, race or sexual orientation.
Please note that we intend to hold interviews on site on Friday 7th of November. This will likely involve a short personal piece, a short lesson as well as the interview itself.
