Job Description:

London Gatwick is more than just a workplace. We are a community of innovators, problem solvers, and achievers, united by our passion for pushing boundaries and overcoming challenges. If you're looking for a career that combines the thrill of the full project life cycle, a commitment to work-life balance, and sustainability, then look no further. Here at Gatwick, no two projects are the same; the only consistent thing is the location.

We have a variety of diverse projects to keep you challenged, all on one site; and due to continued growth, we have many complex and interesting projects on the horizon. As a Senior Project Engineer in the Operations Programme, you will have the opportunity to work and play a key part in ground-breaking projects that will shape the future of London Gatwick, operating in a fast-paced, energetic environment.

Your ideas will be valued, and your contributions will have a lasting impact on our organisation and our passengers. Your role is pivotal in leading the design of a variety of strategically important projects for Gatwick Airport with typical budgets up to £20m, ensuring that design meets project requirements, whilst achieving real value for money. This role involves every stage of the project process, including ensuring all projects are installed in line with approved designs.

The role

Reporting to the Programme Design Manager, you will play a key role in the Construction team, responsible for ensuring design meets needs across varied multi-million-pound projects, including working in defined sub-programmes on complex projects.

Other duties include:

* Developing project scopes that support the business to meet its needs
* Finding innovative design solutions that meet project scopes, are realistically deliverable, meet GAL engineering standards, and are cost-effective
* Developing clear and transparent design briefs for external design consultants
* Managing and reviewing the outputs of external design consultants to ensure effective implementation of designs that meet quality requirements and are aligned with delivery milestones and governance tollgates
* Working with the Asset Information Team and other stakeholders to determine the asset information requirements for design and construction contracts

What are we looking for?

The live environment at Gatwick requires all our teams to have a flexible and adaptable approach, with problem-solving skills and an innovative outlook. Involved in projects from inception to completion, you will work alongside multiple stakeholders. Additionally, this role requires:

* Previous multi-disciplinary experience in an engineering design or design management role, ideally in a live operational environment with responsibility for delivering safety-critical outcomes, with a strong focus on significant multi-year infrastructure programmes of work valued over £20 million (preferably in infrastructure, building, or operational development fields)
* Educated to Degree level or equivalent with honours in architecture, engineering, or construction-related fields
* Qualifications – A Chartered Member of a recognised Engineering Institution is highly desirable
* Knowledge of and experience in scoping and briefing is essential

What do I get?

Our employees tell us that working here is something special and no day is like another; where our teams do things every day that other airports only dream of. Along with a competitive salary, our employees enjoy a range of personal, health, and financial benefits, including:

* 5% Welcome Bonus
* Performance-based bonus scheme
* High street shops and restaurant discounts
* Life and disability insurance
* Professional training and development
* Professional subscriptions
* Discounted travel

What it's like to work at London Gatwick?

Our people are our biggest asset. We want people to thrive and have the best experience while working with us. We know we are at our best when we feel comfortable and included.

We are an organisation that places diversity, equity, and inclusion at its heart. Our goal is to create a place where everyone belongs and has a voice, and we recognize that we all play an important role in our success.
