Key Responsibilities

Teaching & Learning

* Deliver high-quality English lessons across Key Stages 3 and 4 (with potential for KS5)

* Plan and teach engaging, challenging lessons that inspire a love of reading, writing, and critical thinking

* Prepare pupils for internal assessments and public examinations (GCSE/A Level)

* Differentiate teaching to support all learners, including high-attaining pupils and those requiring additional support

Assessment & Progress

* Assess, monitor, and track pupil progress, providing clear and constructive feedback

* Use assessment data to inform teaching and support pupil achievement

* Prepare pupils effectively for examinations, developing strong analytical and writing skills

Pastoral Care

* Act as a form tutor, supporting pupils’ academic progress and personal development

* Build strong relationships with pupils and parents, maintaining clear and professional communication

* Contribute to the school’s strong pastoral system and uphold safeguarding responsibilities

Curriculum & Department Contribution

* Contribute to the development of an ambitious and enriching English curriculum

* Collaborate with colleagues to share best practice and develop high-quality teaching resources

* Participate in departmental meetings, curriculum planning, and co-curricular initiatives

* Support activities such as debating, drama, creative writing, and literary societies

* Contribute to the broader life of the school, including trips, clubs, and enrichment activities

* Attend school events such as open days, parent evenings, and academic evenings

Person Specification

Essential

* A degree in English or a related subject

* Teaching qualification (PGCE/QTS or equivalent)

* Experience teaching English at KS3 and KS4 (KS5 desirable)

* Strong subject knowledge and passion for English literature and language

* Excellent communication and organisational skills

Desirable

* Experience teaching A Level English Literature and/or Language

* Experience in an independent school setting

* Ability to contribute to co-curricular activities such as drama or creative writing
