Technical Executive
Pay: £30,000 – £35,000 per year
Job Type: Full-time
Location: Hitchin (on-site)
Job Description
One Good Thing (OGT) is a disruptive start-up business that produces the world's first wrapper-free nutrition bars for cyclists, runners and active outdoor sportspeople. We are looking to hire a Technical Executive to support our growing technical team and help maintain the highest standards of compliance, quality, and hygiene across our production site.
This is a hands-on, full-time on-site role at our Hitchin factory. You'll play a vital part in ensuring our bars are safe, compliant, and audit-ready while supporting our mission to scale into a mass-market sports nutrition supplier.
Role Overview
We're looking for a diligent, detail-oriented Technical Executive to strengthen our compliance, quality, and hygiene functions. You'll report directly to the Senior Technical & NPD Executive and work closely with production to ensure our products meet customer and regulatory standards. This is a fast-paced start-up environment, so you'll need to be proactive, adaptable, and eager to grow quickly with the business.
Key Responsibilities
Quality Control (QC)
* Perform raw material checks, in-process controls, and finished product verification.
* Carry out sensory testing (taste panels) and complete QC records.
* Take responsibility for identifying and correcting issues in production through root cause analysis, spotting quality problems early and ensuring they are resolved safely in the live production environment.
* Ensure all records are accurate, up to date, and audit-ready.
Compliance
* Maintain HACCP documentation, allergen risk assessments, and product specifications.
* Support supplier approval and compliance checks.
* Monitor and maintain labelling accuracy and traceability.
Hygiene
* Oversee daily, weekly, and deep-clean schedules.
* Conduct hygiene audits, swabbing, and environmental monitoring.
* Train production staff on hygiene, GMP, and food safety practices.
Team Support & Reporting
* Collate data for KPIs (non-conformances, complaints, hygiene, QC checks).
* Support the wider Technical department in projects, NPD trials, and continuous improvement.
What We're Looking For
* Food Science, Food Technology, or related degree (essential).
* At least 1 year experience in a food safety, quality, or technical role.
* Drive and ambition to grow quickly in a fast-paced environment.
* Strong organisational skills with the ability to plan and prioritise.
* Confident communicator with strong attention to detail, able to work effectively with production and NPD.
* Proactive, problem-solving approach and willingness to get hands-on.
* Comfortable using systems for reporting and record-keeping.
Benefits
* £30,000 – £35,000 annual salary (depending on experience).
* 25 days annual leave (plus bank holidays).
* Company pension.
* Free on-site parking.
* Employee discount.
* Casual dress.
* Personal growth opportunities as we scale – you will grow as we do.
Work Schedule
* Full-time, permanent.
* Monday to Friday, 9:00 am – 5:30 pm (on-site).
