Overview
Systems Safety Engineer (Systems Safety & Mission Assurance) at Boeing. This role supports a new programme within Boeing Defence UK and involves working with the Environmental Safety Engineer to contribute to activities aligned with MoD policies and Defence Standards.
Position responsibilities
* Assist the programme planning and support for safety activities including: safety programme scoping and planning, resource workload planning, support to bids and proposals, and identifying, monitoring and mitigating risks, issues and opportunities.
* Develop Programme System Safety artefacts and documentation in accordance with MoD Safety Policy, Defence Standard 00-056, 00-055 and related international standards, including: Safety Management Plans, Software Safety Case development, Hazard Identification and Analysis, Hazard Logs (CASSANDRA or other tools), Safety Case Reports, and Safety Arguments using appropriate methodologies.
* Ensure liaison with Boeing, Customer and Supplier disciplines to provide evidence for the Software Safety Case.
* Proactively support Customer and Supplier Safety Meetings and/or chair internal and customer-facing System Safety Working Groups.
* Some UK travel is expected.
Qualifications
* Degree in Engineering or equivalent.
* Formal System Safety training.
* Demonstrable experience leading and developing Safety Assessments for Information Systems and data.
* Experience applying MoD Safety Policy and Def Stan 00-056, 00-055.
* Experience applying Safety Techniques to Safety Related Data and Information Systems; experience developing Software Safety Cases for information systems.
* Familiarity with RTCA DO-178B/C and IEC 61508 Part 3.
* Experience with safety tools such as CASSANDRA and Adelard ASCE.
* Ability to plan work, develop/use metrics to evaluate safety status, and provide performance visibility.
* Ability to identify and implement improvements to strategies, processes and project plans; experience developing resource workload plans and schedules; experience supporting bids and proposals.
* Strong communication, technical competency, and project management skills.
* Postgraduate qualification in System Safety Engineering is highly desirable (completed or in progress).
