Purpose of the Role:
The Communications Executive will serve as the main contact for media requests, manage drivers’ public commitments, and ensure smooth communication during events, races, and partner activations. Responsibilities include scheduling, media engagement, opportunity identification, and alignment with the team’s communication strategy.
Principal Accountabilities:
1. Manage and coordinate driver schedules, including interviews, press conferences, sponsor obligations, and appearances.
2. Act as liaison between drivers, media, and internal teams for external engagements.
3. Evaluate and prioritize media requests, aligning them with team priorities.
4. Identify and pitch media opportunities to enhance driver profiles and team initiatives.
5. Prepare drivers for media appearances with briefing documents and messaging.
6. Accompany drivers at races and events to manage media obligations.
7. Write press releases, race recaps, and web stories; manage CMS software.
8. Monitor media coverage, analyze metrics, and adjust strategies accordingly.
9. Collaborate with the broader McLaren Racing organization to ensure consistent messaging.
10. Develop relationships with media stakeholders for ongoing story opportunities.
11. Assist in crisis communication and manage real-time media situations.
12. Maintain a master calendar of PR activities and obligations.
13. Develop storytelling strategies highlighting drivers’ personalities and achievements.
Job Requirements:
Knowledge, Skills, and Experience:
* Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Sports Management, or related field.
* 2–4 years of experience in public relations, preferably in sports, entertainment, or motorsport.
* Proven success in media pitching and placements.
* Excellent organization, scheduling, and attention to detail.
* Strong writing, editing, and communication skills.
* Experience working with media and high-profile talent.
* Ability to stay calm under pressure and adapt quickly.
* Experience with media monitoring and PR tools.
* Proficiency in Microsoft Office; familiarity with media monitoring platforms is a plus.
* Willingness to travel extensively during the racing season.
* Based in Indianapolis, Indiana.
* Passion for motorsport and understanding of the NTT INDYCAR SERIES preferred.
* Highly organized, flexible, and detail-oriented.
* Confident communicator with a proactive attitude.
* Thrives in fast-paced, energetic environments.
* Professional and personable when interacting with drivers, executives, and media.
* Passionate about storytelling, motorsport, and brand building.
