Clinical Responsibilities To assist the clinical teams in the day to day running of the radiology departments at Ashford, St. Peters and Woking Hospitals. Assisting modality areas in maintaining an efficient daily work list, workflow of patients. To use the Radiology IT systems efficiently to attend patients for their appointment, request patients to come to the department, add to the diary for future appointments, book appointments and make notes on the system.

To prepare the patient for diagnostic examinations and fulfil the requirements of correct patient identification, confidentiality and data protection. Utilise the appropriate moving and handling aids to reduce the risk of injury to the patient or themselves. Assisting Radiologist, Specialist Sonographers, Cytology and Physiotherapists in interventional procedures in Ultrasound and Fluoroscopy Set up the procedure trollies for guided injections, aspirations, biopsies and other procedures using an aseptic technique To assist cytology during fine needle aspirations, preparing slides, assisting during procedures and labelling slides to send to pathology for testing. To monitor patients blood pressure, heart rate and sats before CT procedures and post procedures and alerting the Nursing staff of any concerns To be able to act accordingly in a crash call and understand the part they play in this situation.

Ensure correct aftercare is given to the patient before leaving, post scan/procedure paperwork is given to the patient, checklists saved in the documents file on Cris To organise transportation of patients to and from examinations Deal with upset and distressed patients in a positive and comforting manner To maintain the highest possible standards of compassionate and professional patient care with particular attention to privacy and dignity. Be aware of and contribute to the protection of individuals from abuse and report any suspicions of abuse to your manager or appropriate other (safeguarding team) Recognise and respect all aspects of diversity in a n on-discriminatory, inclusive manner. Adhere to the patient property policy and ensure the upmost care is taken to ensure belongings do not become misplaced or lost. In the event that items have been left behind that the correct channels are used to return items to the owner.

To clean after a procedure and prepare room for the next examination Following training to cannulate patients for CT scanning contrast examinations Undertake routine clinical duties when required which can include simple wound dressings and removal of peripheral cannula. Follow departmental protocols to ensure clinical practice and general housekeeping is maintained (including cleanliness of equipment and accessories). Follow policies and procedures designed to prevent hospital acquired and external infections. Fill out daily checklists to document this is carried out.

To clean the ultrasound machines daily and clean filters each week. Ensure that the patient waiting areas and changing cubicles are kept clean, tidy and clean gown are always available. Assist with the tidiness and promoting cleanliness in all patient areas, including equipment rooms and storerooms, and take appropriate care of furniture and equipment. Ensure beds and equipment are properly cleaned between patient use, as per the IPC guidelines.

Adhere to IPC and Covid infection control guideline Work in a manner to reduce waste and take responsibility for the safe and prudent use of equipment and clinical consumables. Undertake and maintain compliance with all relevant mandatory and statutory training. Support and assist with new staff training and induction when requested Abide by the Trusts uniform polic To carrying out any other duties that reasonably fit within the broad scope of a job of this grade and type of work when requested by the Department Manager Communication Inform clinical team of patients arriving for examination and provide general support before, during and after the examination. Answer the telephone in accordance with the Trusts guidelines and refer calls appropriate to others.

Communicate effectively with patients and relatives in a kind, courteous, sensitive and appropriate manner and refer to the appropriate member of department (sonographer, secretaries, booking team, manager) when required. Report any incidents, accidents, concerns, near misses or complaints to the appropriate person and complete Datix form, if required. Be sensitive to the patient and their environment, ensuring communication of a personal and private nature is discreet, and patient confidentiality is maintained. Build up a good working relationship with direct team, wider Radiology team and rest of the trust team in order to offer best service and practice.

General / Other Duties To be able to work cross site at our 3 departments in Chertsey, Ashford and Woking and take part in a department 7-day service. To assist in maintaining the correct levels of stock and required drugs needed for CT, Ultrasound, general x-ray and fluoroscopy and ensure appropriate documentation is completed. Monitor quality of own work to ensure that the required standards of performance are met. Check attending patients on CRIS To be familiar with and comply with all Trust and departmental policies, procedures, protocols and guidelines.

To be aware of the IRMER regulations and adhere to patient and staff safety To be aware of clinical governance and participate in service improvement and audits when required. To be aware of and work towards strategic goals. To fully participate in one-to-one meetings and own PDR/appraisal process Ensure continuing personal and professional development, taking ownership and accountability for staying up to date. Maintain continued competency in emergency resuscitation techniques, manual handling and fire regulations.

To attend the appropriate mandatory training as required by the Trust Support the implementation of the Trust diversity and inclusion strategy. The post holder must ensure that their behaviour and interests inside and outside of work do not conflict with their Trust position, duties and/or responsibilities The post holder supports the organisation to act safely and responsibly in relation to patients and staff, communities in which they work. Ensure that the law in key areas such as health and safety, employment, and finance is complied with. Work within specific regulations such as governance arrangements and ethical frameworks for the NHS.
