Purpose of the Role To supervise the maintenance of Colas Rail owned and leased assets to ensure the maximum availability and reliability is achieved. Ensure that the equipment is maintained in accordance with relevant standards, procedures & legislation. To deliver the required work in a safe and effective manner, conforming to contract specification and to provide the first level response to any locomotive and wagon failures, and ensuring a high level of cleanliness, reliability and performance is achieved. Key Responsibilities To facilitate the work of the Mobile Maintenance Technicians, Repair Specialists, Trainer/Assessors and serve as a front line Supervisor. To coordinate all aspects of Colas Rail locomotives and Wagons including staff issues and successful completion of work under guidance of Fleet Engineers and Production Manager. To ensure that all work undertaken is recorded and logged on the exam and repair sheets To notify the planners in terms of all short term changes. Reporting direct to the Production Manager of regular updates of Work in Progress to ensure that the Senior management are aware of any operational issues and performance. Responsible and accountable for your area Knowledge of legislation Knowledge of quality systems and management Prepare Method of Work statements and Rick Assessments To ensure that appropriate PPE is worn at all times. Liaise with Management team to gather information relevant to Colas Rail maintenance locations. Liaise with Management team / Colas Control on serious incidents such as accidents, safety issues and fatalities etc. Ensuring management are regularly updated throughout. Liaise with Management team on Environmental Agency and “Clean up” contractors of Environmental incidents Liaise with Management team on for cause drug screening requests Liaise with Management team of any additional Manpower in cases where there is either a shortfall or additional shifts required. Assist staff in the event of vehicle breakdown and accidents Serve as a link between team members and management team Act as a liaison with customers and contractors Actively follow-up information and data requested by team members in order for them to perform their duties professionally and remain fit for duties; Ensure that written communication is performed and all necessary paperwork and administrative duties are fulfilled Ensure that all team members are fit for duty Complete and send all necessary and correct paperwork to Freight Engineering administrators for processing To help team members perform their varied duties competently and fully on locomotives and wagons Remain aware of both personal limitations and professional boundaries and when to refer colleagues to more senior management Book hotel/ travel arrangements when required Stand in as Production Manager / Fleet engineers when required Must be focused on training and development of staff to improve skill level at all times At the end of each working shift provide a comprehensive written account to the Production Manager and Fleet Engineers detailing all works carried out. Occasionally, if the need arises, be prepared to lodge away for a limited period in order to efficiently carry out maintenance duties on locomotives and wagons. When driving company vehicles, do so within the bounds of the Highway Code and any appropriate company instructions and procedures. Participate in the taking of samples for analysis and any works arising as part of the Condition Based Monitoring Scheme. Comply with all company procedures regarding issuing equipment by Depot based stores holdings. Carry out safety tours Ensure all calibrated equipment is in date and fit for purpose Ensure all locations are fit for purpose, this includes buildings, yards and equipment. Participate fully and proactively in the company competency assessment programme. Carry out on call duties as required for the business. Undertake any other duties if assessed as competent to do so. SHEQ Responsibilities Work to applicable Safety Plans and Method Statements. Comply with Section 7 of the Health & Safety at Work Act 1974 Person Specification Recognised formal apprenticeship in Mechanical / Electrical engineering To have achieved the core competencies of Class 37, Class 56, Class 66, Class 67, and Class 70 locomotives. Wagon maintenance Class 43 Driving Licence PTS DP Working from Heights Confined spaces Manual handling Fire Training Emergency First Aid Depot /Yard Inductions Excellent IT skills with working knowledge of Word, Excel & Microsoft Teams Ability to understand technical drawings and maintenance schedules
