Job Title: Health Visitor
NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde, one of the UK's largest healthcare systems, employs approximately 40,000 staff across various clinical and non-clinical roles. We provide acute hospital, primary, community, and mental health services to a population of over 1.15 million, expanding to 2.2 million when regional and national services are included.
This is a permanent, part-time position of 29.7 hours per week, with a shift pattern from Monday to Friday, 8:30 am to 4:30 pm. Please note that the salary is pro-rata for part-time hours.
Qualifications and Experience
Applicants must be a first-level registered nurse with current registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council, hold a post-registration qualification in Health Visiting/Public Health Nursing, and have relevant post-registration experience as a PHN/Health Visitor.
Role Overview
Join North West Glasgow’s dedicated Locality Children’s Services Team. We are recruiting a Health Visitor responsible for delivering the Universal Pathway to all children on a designated caseload. The area features both affluent and deprived communities, benefiting from professional support and diverse experiences within the Glasgow City HSCP.
The Health Visitor is an autonomous practitioner working within the legal and ethical frameworks of the NMC and national legislation. Responsibilities include managing a health visiting caseload, ensuring quality care through assessment, referral, and communication, and implementing evidence-based interventions. The role involves supervising team members' work and working within multidisciplinary teams to address public health needs.
Caseload and Responsibilities
The caseload size will be determined locally using the national weight load measurement tool, based on the child population within the GP practice, clusters, or geographical locality. The Health Visitor will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to identify and meet public health needs, including child protection, domestic abuse, addictions, peri-natal illness, and support for children with disabilities or life-limiting conditions.
Skills and Competencies
Required skills include providing highly specialized advice, parenting support, health promotion, health education, psycho-social interventions, and immunizations. The role also involves providing reciprocal support for wider caseloads, offering clinical leadership, and ensuring continuous service delivery.
