Job Title: Mechanical Engineer Salary: Competitive, based on experience Job Type: Full-time, Permanent Location: Kidderminster, Worcestershire Company Overview A leading industrial site near Kidderminster is seeking a highly experienced Mechanical Engineer to take a senior leadership role within its engineering team at a modern energy and waste processing facility. The role is ideal for a mechanically focused professional with a strong understanding of plant maintenance, project planning, and compliance within a fast-paced, technically complex environment. Role Overview The Mechanical Engineer will be responsible for: Leading the Mechanical Maintenance Department and acting as line manager to a team of Mechanical Technicians. Ensuring all mechanical systems and assets are maintained in line with operational standards and statutory regulations. Planning, resourcing, and executing scheduled shutdowns, plant upgrades, and preventive maintenance programs. Managing mechanical failures and faults efficiently while maintaining detailed reports and records. Overseeing external contractors and suppliers to ensure quality, safety, and cost-effectiveness of mechanical services. Maintaining compliance with relevant safety regulations including PSSR and LOLER. Supporting plant improvements, obsolescence planning, and spare parts management. Assisting in audits and acting as a support to the Maintenance Manager when required. Collaborating with Electrical, Controls, and Instrumentation teams as necessary. Required Skills & Experience A qualified Mechanical Engineer, holding a minimum of a Higher National Certificate (HNC) or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering. Minimum 5 years of post-qualification experience in an industrial or process environment. Broad experience in the maintenance of mechanical systems, particularly rotating and high-pressure equipment. Familiarity with statutory mechanical testing and inspection requirements. Strong leadership and communication skills, with experience managing both teams and contractors. Ability to plan and deliver maintenance activities within budget and time constraints. Desirable Attributes Background in Energy from Waste, Power Stations, or complex process plant environments. Comfortable working independently and under pressure in a dynamic environment. Skilled at troubleshooting and improving plant reliability and efficiency. Proactive and collaborative approach to cross-functional teamwork and continuous improvement.
