About the Department
You will join a friendly, busy department that works closely with clinical consultant staff. We are MHRA compliant and UKAS accredited. The department operates on unsociable hours, and night shifts are paid at a locally agreed fixed rate.
We have a well‐designed, up‑to‑date laboratory equipped with Grifols analysers for blood transfusion, a blood track system, and Contronics temperature monitoring. In haematology and coagulation we use Sysmex XNs and ACL TOPS, and we manage the quality system with Q‑Pulse. We are upgrading to a new LIMS system (WinPath Enterprise).
Responsibilities
* Maintain the quality management system and support UKAS accreditation.
* Train less experienced staff and work with junior colleagues to develop their skills.
* Validate and authorise results, ensuring accuracy and efficiency across the service area.
* Resolve complex equipment or process problems in manual, semi‑automated and fully automated investigations.
* Participate in day‑to‑day management of stock control and usage, maintaining blood transfusion and haematology stock levels and records to ensure efficient use.
* Support the department’s commitment to patient care and continuous improvement.
