Speech and Language Therapist
Band 6
An exciting opportunity exists for a conscientious, motivated and innovative speech therapist to work within the Cardiff and Vale University Health Board Flying Start service. The role involves supporting families at both universal and targeted levels, focusing on the prevention and early identification of Speech, Language and Communication needs for children aged 0‑4 years.
Roles & Responsibilities
* Facilitate and empower parents and carers to promote children’s communication development, collaborating closely with the Flying Start team, and actively involving parents in all aspects of their child’s communication development.
* Advise, coach and train parents, carers, Flying Start workers, childcare staff and others in children’s environments to enhance and sustain communication development.
* Contribute to the ongoing development of the Flying Start Speech and Language service, delivering the Flying Start Speech, Language and Communication initiatives.
* Provide supervision to Band 5 SLT’s and Band 4 Speech and Language Technical Instructors, and deliver placements to Speech and Language Therapy students.
* Deliver services in accordance with the Flying Start agenda, adapting the service as funded projects evolve.
Qualifications
* Degree in Speech and Language Therapy
* Registered member of the Royal College of Speech & Language Therapists
* Registered member of the Health and Care Professions Council
Experience
* Experience managing a specific preschool caseload.
* Experience working collaboratively within multi‑agency and multidisciplinary teams.
* Experience providing training to other professionals and clinical placements for SLT students.
* Experience working as part of a Flying Start team.
Skills
* Experience of training others in identifying and supporting children with speech, language and communication difficulties.
* Experience delivering training to parents.
* Ability to speak Welsh (desirable).
Knowledge
* Knowledge of screening programmes such as WellComm.

* UK professional registration is required.
