About the Role
Our Balfour Beatty Highways business has a terrific opportunity for a Senior Planner to join our £1.2 billion Lower Thames Crossing project, consisting of 43 bridges including viaducts, 17 km of complex highways construction, complex utility diversions, and a scheme-wide approach to carbon reduction.
Balfour Beatty Highways maintains, manages and operates major highway networks across the UK and supports local authorities creating communities where people want to live, work and play. The Senior Planner's scope encompasses high‑level project planning and coordination, playing a key role in achieving efficient and successful construction outcomes, as well as providing planning input to achieve the project’s carbon targets and initiatives.
What you'll be doing
* Resource Management: Manage labour, equipment, and materials efficiently to meet project objectives while minimising costs and delays.
* Tender: Collaborate to develop and agree on a strategic and optimized sequence and methodology.
* Contract: Ensure meticulous production, management, and maintenance of the Contract Programme.
* Contract Management: Manage contracts with subcontractors and suppliers, monitor performance, and resolve contract-related issues.
* Schedule Change Management: Implement controlled changes to schedules through the Change Control Process.
* Schedule Quality Management: Monitor the Schedule against project scope requirements and specific schedule obligations.
* Strategic Planning Oversight and Mentorship: Provide strategic planning oversight and develop intricate scheduling techniques.
* Data Analysis: Produce project data and KPIs to track progress, identify deviations, and support data‑driven decisions for project improvement.
Who we're looking for
Skills
* Analytical and problem solving
* Good understanding and management of data and processes
* Negotiation and conflict resolution
Knowledge
* Advanced competence in project management tools and software (Excel, MS Project, Primavera P6 or ASTA, Acumen Fuse)
* Understanding of construction project management principles, methodologies and best practices
* Advanced knowledge in project scheduling and planning
* Knowledge of tender and contract documents and specifications
* Knowledge of Risk Management in project programmes: TRA, QSRA, etc
* Knowledge of Change Management in project programmes: EWNs, CEs, etc.
* Knowledge of Schedule Quality Management in project programmes
* Understanding of financial aspects related to project planning
Experience
* Experience in producing and managing Construction Programmes on complex projects
* Experience leading planning efforts for construction projects with a track record of successful delivery
* Experience managing relationships with clients, subcontractors and stakeholders with effective communication
