JOB PURPOSE:
The Technical Specification Writer will be responsible for creating, updating, and maintaining the systems and detailed technical product specifications for food products, ensuring compliance with customer requirements, regulatory standards, and company policies. This role requires a strong understanding of food manufacturing processes, ingredient functionality, food safety, and labeling regulations.
This role will require you to work closely with the Technical, Sales, NPD and the Operations teams to obtain the required information. You will liaise with suppliers and customers as required.
Main Duties:
· Develop and maintain accurate technical product specifications, including nutritional information, ingredient declarations, allergen statements, and shelf-life data.
· Maintain raw material and packaging specification files – request specifications from suppliers, ensure signed off, maintain electronic files etc.
· Ensure labeling and packaging information is accurate and compliant with current regulations. Update documents accordingly.
· Liaise with NPD, Quality Assurance, Procurement, and Production teams to gather product information and to ensure all required information is ready and approved prior to submitting customer specifications.
· Ensure all specifications meet relevant food legislation Customer Policies and Scratch Meals Ltd standards. Work on customer portals including Oracle, Ashbury, Wave, APP etc.
· Maintain up-to-date records in specification management systems
· Respond to customer specification requests, questionnaires, and compliance documentation.
· Assist in new product development by creating initial and final specifications.
· Support audits by providing required documentation and technical data such as traceability exercises.
· Respond to any customer queries relating to the specification and amends as necessary.
· Manage Valid IT and insite; pesticides and countries of origin.
· Maintain recipe systems - Input into ERP system, review Recipe System Database.
· Maintain relevant sections of the Crisis Manual.
· Prepare pack copy for retail packaging and review pdfs for approval.
· Creation reports, answering specific e-mail queries as required at the customer's request.
Additional Duties:
* Involvement in the risk assessment process, to reduce the risk to health & safety within your working area
* Any other duties as requested by your line manager.
* Support technical function more broadly including with administration, key meetings and improvement plans
