We are delighted to provide an opportunity for an ambitious and motivated colorectal clinical nurse specialist to support patients diagnosed with colorectal cancer and their families throughout their care journey, from diagnosis to treatment.
The successful applicant will be the key professional supporting a caseload of patients, and will often be the first to inform patients of their diagnosis.
Key responsibilities
* Manage your own nurse‑led clinics and provide high standard care to all patients who attend.
* Work across sites to support patients diagnosed with colorectal cancer or suspected of having colorectal cancer.
* Request appropriate investigations in line with current guidelines.
* Develop the service to become more streamlined and efficient in a modern NHS.
* Collaborate with management, finance and IT to ensure clinics are set up efficiently and appropriately aligned.
* Formulate written patient information and educational packs.
* Refer patients to onward services, including genetics service for confirmed Lynch syndrome.
* Prepare clinical data for MDT and work with MDT coordinator to ensure relevant patients are discussed.
* Attend weekly colorectal MDT meetings, presenting patients when required and contributing to discussions.
* Record clinic activity to analyse trends in annual activity.
* Utilise advanced communication skills to manage episodes of care promptly and reassuringly.
* Lead and support multidisciplinary team members, act as a role model, and provide clinical leadership to other nursing staff.
* Conduct periodic audits, research, and quality improvement activities, disseminating findings to improve practice.
* Promote patient independence through teaching and support, and develop educational programmes.
* Participate in and organise study days, and educational programmes for staff.
* Engage patients and the public to comment on services and influence changes.
* Collaborate with outside charities, organisations and agencies, and promote bowel cancer awareness through campaigns.
* Ensure safe, secure and acceptable environment for patients; advocate for patients and staff.
* Support resource management efficiencies and liaise with other teams.
* Represent the Trust locally and nationally, speaking at conferences.
* Perform additional duties requested by line manager as appropriate.

Education and qualifications
* Registered Nurse qualification (mandatory).
* Degree level education (mandatory).
* Post‑registration education in relevant specialty (mandatory).
* Teaching qualification (mandatory).
* Working toward a master’s degree (optional).
Experience
* Experience working with patients with colorectal cancer.
* Experience working with multidisciplinary members.
* Autonomous working (desirable).
* Delivering educational seminars to staff (desirable).
* Experience with electronic patient records.
Skills and knowledge
* Excellent communication skills.
