Primary SEMH Special Needs Teaching Assistant –
Croydon
Full-time | Immediate Start | Enhanced DBS Required
We are seeking a committed and compassionate SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health) Teaching Assistant to join a supportive primary school in Croydon. This role is ideal for someone who is patient, resilient, and passionate about helping children with additional needs thrive both academically and emotionally.
Key Responsibilities
· Provide 1:1 and small-group support for pupils with SEMH needs
· Assist the class teacher in creating a safe, structured, and nurturing learning environment
· Implement behaviour support strategies and personalised learning plans
· Build positive, trusting relationships with pupils to support emotional regulation
· Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs, and external professionals
· Support pupils during transitions, break times, and throughout the school day
Requirements
· Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one)
· Right to work in the UK
· Availability for full-time work (Monday-Friday, term time)
· Experience supporting children with SEMH, challenging behaviour, or SEND is highly desirable
· Strong communication skills and a calm, empathetic approach
· Ability to work as part of a team and follow behaviour support plans
