Teaching Assistant – Alternative Provision (Maidstone)

Full-Time | Salary: £23,000 p/a
Pearson Whiffin Education are working with a fantastic Alternative Provision in the Maidstone area to recruit a SEMH Teaching Assistant to support secondary-aged students with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.
This is a full-time, permanent position offering £22,000 per year, with an immediate start available for the right candidate. The school provides a supportive and therapeutic environment for students who require additional emotional, behavioural and academic support to succeed in education.
The role of an SEMH Teaching Assistant will involve:
1. Supporting students with SEMH needs in 1:1 and small group settings
2. Working closely with teachers and pastoral staff to create a safe, positive learning environment
3. Helping students regulate their emotions and manage challenging behaviour
4. Assisting with the planning and delivery of tailored interventions
5. Building strong, trusting relationships with young people
6. Being alert to safeguarding concerns and working within safeguarding protocols
We are looking for someone who:
7. Has previous experience working with young people who display challenging behaviour or have SEMH needs (in schools, care, youth work, or similar)
8. Is calm, resilient and compassionate with excellent de-escalation skills
9. Can set firm boundaries while maintaining empathy and a supportive approach
10. Is confident working with secondary-aged students in a structured but flexible setting
11. Holds or is willing to obtain an enhanced DBS on the update service
