Overall Objective
13. To manage a specialist case load of patients with complex nutritional needs, using evidence based and person-centred principles, to assess, plan, implement and evaluate treatment
14. To manage all service resources effectively.
15. To take responsibility as an autonomous practitioner in planning and developing a dietetic service with a range of adults with complex needs in older persons mental health/ mental health and learning disability
Qualifications and Training
Degree or equivalent in Nutritional Sciences. Experience of working within a Health setting.
Health and Safety

Role Responsibilities
Clinical
16. Complete full assessment of patient’s nutritional status, using appropriate anthropometric, biochemical and medical records and identify their nutritional requirements.
17. Devise core and specialist nutritional treatment plans e.g. diabetes, weight reducing, food intolerance, enteral nutrition, renal nutrition, disordered eating.
18. Implement specialist group and individual treatments to achieve goals.
19. Use patient centred motivation techniques to effect nutritional behaviour change.
20. Evaluate and modify interventions using appropriate outcome measures.
21. Practice in accordance with legislation according to your clinical area.
Communication
22. Communicate with patients, using the most appropriate verbal, written or pictorial method, in a way that respects their view, autonomy and culture.
23. Translate key nutritional messages into simple ideas and language that can be easily understood by the client group.
24. Work collaboratively with all members of the clinical team and share information with the team members formally and informally through morning meetings/huddles/CTP and CPAs and MDT notes.
25. Liaise with other departments within the service and beyond.
Catering Liaison
26. Ensure the menu meets the ethically, cultural and health needs of all our patient groups.
27. Ensure that the food choices meet National Nutritional Standards.
28. Audit catering meals as prescribed to the service users.
29. Support Training with staff to provide good meal time care.
Clinical Governance and Quality Standards
30. Initiate and contribute to Clinical Governance and Quality Agenda Activity within the organisation.
31. Attend statutory and mandatory training.
32. Actively undertake measures to meet targets for organisational Key Performance indicators.
33. Participate in Clinical Audit Programme.
Research and Practice Development
34. Promote and engage in practice development, evaluation, audit and research activities to implement evidence-based practice.
35. Share and disseminate research findings with professional colleagues in the interest of practice development.
36. To act as a source of expertise in relation to dietetic therapy for the multidisciplinary team.
Education
37. Participate and take the lead role in the specialist education and training of professional and clinical colleagues.
38. Participate in and contribute to continuing professional development.
39. Lead education and training events for colleagues.

40. To adhere to relevant Health Profession Council regulations and other codes of professional conduct.
41. Adhere to all organisational policies and procedures.

43. Initiate and participate in development activities within the clinical area.

Qualifications and Training
Essential
51. Degree in Human Nutrition and Dietetics or equivalent dietetic qualification
52. Registered to practice by HCPC
53. Member of the British Dietetic Association
54. Evidence of ongoing CPD training.
Desirable
55. Post- Graduate Courses. ( MSc)
56. Students Supervisors course.
57. Driving licence
Experience
Essential
58. Experience of specified client group.
59. Minimum of 3 years post qualifications in specified area ie. Mental Health, Learning Disabilities, Physical Health and Forensics.
60. Ability to manage own caseload and work independently across sites
Desirable
61. Evidence of additional work experience.
62. Experience in supervision of staff.
63. Experience of liaising and negotiating with a range of mental health professionals.
