Are you looking to progress your career? An exciting opportunity has arisen for a fixed term junior sister posting, to join our friendly and energetic team on Kennaway ward.
Kennaway ward is a 11-bed inpatient adult ward caring for cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy, radiotherapy, surgery, and symptom control as part of their cancer journey. We also have a 3 bedded surgical day unit which runs 5 days a week offering day case surgery.
The successful candidate will require excellent interpersonal and clinical skills and enjoy working as part of a team. You will be required to act as a role model for junior members of the team, ensuring care is delivered to a high standard in line with the values of the trust, and supporting them in their own professional development. Whilst also assuming managerial responsibilities for co‑ordination of shifts, supporting the Ward Sister with the management of staff, auditing, incident reporting and be actively involved in recruitment and developing skills as a leader within the Trust.
Responsibilities
* Assist the ward manager of Kennaway Ward in creating and maintaining a safe, therapeutic clinical environment for all patients and their families who come to the area.
* Assist the ward manager in managing resources within the clinical area in a cost effective way, including maintaining and monitoring equipment and being proactive in managing staff rosters to minimise the use of temporary staffing.
* Assist in providing strong proactive clinical leadership of the nursing and support workers that is motivating, supportive and sets clear boundaries resulting in high quality safe patient care. The post‑holder will deputise for the ward manager and coordinate the nursing teams by liaising with the senior staff nurses and clerical staff to ensure continuity of care for patients and on‑going managerial support for staff.
* Work with the ward manager to provide a clinical learning environment that enables nursing staff to develop professionally and promotes the use of evidence in practice.
