Overview
We are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic person to work in our team of Geomatics Analysts. You will be working as part of a small team processing survey data to support the delivery of our National Elevation Data Programmes, using specialist software and GIS to process and quality control data from our state-of-the-art Remote Sensing survey instrumentation including our Airborne LIDAR Terrain Mapper.
Team and role
The Geomatics team, within National Monitoring Survey, provides a range of specialist services to enable effective evidence to be used across the business. This includes the collection and analysis of high-quality Lidar, Aerial Photography, Bathymetry & Satellite data. The team works with National & Area teams to co-deliver monitoring requirements of the Environment Agency and the wider environmental community.
Experience/ skills Required
* You will have a relevant degree level qualification in Geography, GIS, Environment or another relevant scientific discipline, or equivalent experience with an understanding of operational applications.
* You will be able to demonstrate practical experience and broad ranging GIS skills using ESRI products such as ArcGIS Pro or ArcMap and able to demonstrate experience of working with large and complex mapping datasets, preferably Airborne LIDAR.
* Experience of processing and carrying out quality control procedures on LIDAR datasets and LIDAR derived Digital Elevation Models would be advantageous.
* You will be able to demonstrate experience in Remote Sensing techniques, analytical and problem-solving skills and good attention to detail, either through work or your academic experiences.
* You will have good organisational skills and be highly motivated with a professional attitude. You must be able to demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively and to work unsupervised at times to meet challenging deadlines.

The National Monitoring Survey team is a national team, located at various sites around the country and as such you can be based anywhere within working proximity to an EA office. You will be expected to travel to the Geomatics team hub base in Bath when required & you will also be expected to come into an EA office to meet the needs of our team charter, ensuring teams & colleagues are connected and continue to work well together. The post is full-time although requests for other working patterns will be considered. Interviews will take place in-person at our Bath office and will consist of a technical GIS assessment and capability questions.

Competence and responsibilities
Competence 1 – Achieves Results
You should have the ability to set and deliver high work standards and demonstrate the drive to meet targets. Prioritise and organise tasks to ensure timely achievement of results, with flexibility as priorities change. Provide example of analysing or processing a large dataset to a high standard and meeting deadlines, described using STAR (situation, task, action, result).
Competence 2 – Data and Information Management
You must demonstrate the ability to collect, analyse, interpret, record, manage, develop and share data and information for various purposes. Handle, analyse and report on large survey datasets to create clear and accurate GIS products. Demonstrate high competence in ESRI ArcGIS and extensive experience with complex mapping data, preferably Airborne LiDAR. Include details of data types and software used if you have processed Airborne LIDAR datasets. Provide evidence of how you meet this competence in your answer, assessed via STAR technique.
Competence 3 – Scientific Knowledge
Applies scientific knowledge to provide sound, science-based evidence to internal and external customers. Provide examples of applying remote sensing data to inform technical and non-technical audiences. STAR technique will be used for assessment.
