About The Role

Education Welfare Officers represent the Local Authority Education Welfare and EOTAS Service by means of supporting schools and families to address matters in relation to irregular school attendance. They work effectively to promote school age children’s entitlement to receiving an appropriate education at school or otherwise, including those children electively home educated. Children missing from education and those children, who are unable to attend full time due to illness or other conditions, support improved educational outcomes by improving attendance, reducing absence and addressing concerns identified. Education Welfare Officers fulfil enquiries in relation to Child Employment and Entertainment and Chaperone applications.

About You

The ideal candidate will have:

* Knowledge and experience of Education Welfare and EOTAS policy and practice, with the confidence to support schools, children and families effectively.
* Ability to identify, assess and manage school attendance concerns, working with schools and following agreed procedures.
* Experience of managing a caseload, including undertaking home visits and planning appropriate interventions.
* Strong record‑keeping skills, with the ability to maintain accurate electronic case files in line with service policies and procedures.
* Experience of safeguarding children and young people, working in line with Local Authority procedures and in partnership with relevant agencies.
* Ability to prepare professional reports and statements, including contributing to legal processes and attending court when required.
