Overview
An exciting opportunity for a Deputy Divisional Director in Cancer Services, covering 18 months on a fixed‑term contract or secondment. Reporting to the Divisional Management teams, this role will lead delivery of the organisational strategy, operational planning and financial performance of the divisions.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead delivery of high‑quality patient care within available resources, demonstrating strong, consistent and effective leadership.
* Drive complex change initiatives and manage staff and budgets at a significant level.
* Engage clinical managers and collaboratively deliver annual business planning, ensuring capacity and capability to meet local and national priorities.
* Support the Director of Operations, Divisional Medical Director and Divisional Nurse Directors with strategic and operational management of Cancer Services.
* Lead financial and performance improvement initiatives; take lead on project development and service improvement across the division.
* Executive responsibilities include the development and implementation of service provision, research and education programmes.
* Strategic and operational management: ensure effective arrangements, deliver efficient work processes, meet business objectives and maintain national and local performance standards.
* Service planning and finance: plan specialist service bids and business cases, work with finance teams and other providers to implement SLAs.
* Clinical governance and risk management: lead on clinical records, complaints, incident reporting and remedial action.
* Education and development: undertake annual appraisals, set objectives, maintain mandatory and non‑mandatory training and CPD.
Organisation Structure
The Cancer Services Division is structured into three Clinical Business Units;
* CBU1: Breast, Plastics, Lung, Acute Oncology Service (AOS), Kingston Partnership, Joint Thoracic Service (JTS) and responsible for Resident Doctors, Medical Secretaries, Medical Day units and Home Care.
* CBU2: Haematology, Head & Neck, Thyroid, Neuro‑oncology, Children & Young People, Sarcoma, Renal Melanoma and responsible for ambulatory and ward areas for Children and Haematology.
* CBU3: GI, Gynaecology and Urology and responsible for solid tumour ward across both sites.
Qualifications & Experience
Applicants should have a proven track record of achievement in leadership, experience of significant staff and budgetary management, and a record of delivering high‑quality services and driving performance improvement.
