Job Overview
The Senior Security Supervisor will oversee the operational security team reporting to the Head of Security. The successful candidate will need to hold both SIA DS and CCTV licence. Having an excellent knowledge of public safety and security procedures/protocols, the Senior Security Supervisor will ensure the smooth operational running of all Bluewater security functions (Control room/Security Officers/Barrier Officers), whilst supporting the Head of Security in training, development & KPI management. The person will deputize for the Head of Security when required and should be highly motivated and able to make decisions on demanding situations in a professional manner. Exceptional communication and stakeholder management skills will make you a highly credible and competent candidate for this position.
Main Duties
* Work as part of the Elevate team upholding corporate values and standards.
* Work in conjunction with the Head of Security to identify improvement opportunities for the operation, liaising with clients and senior managers as required.
* Maintain high profile internal and external patrols across the site, activate or de‑activate alarm systems, and ensure schedules of checks are followed and in accordance with procedures.
* Ensure that all daily reports of accidents or incidents are reported in line with agreed procedure, ensuring all necessary action is taken and recorded.
* Conduct appropriate first line management responsibilities for Supervisors, including appraisals and ensuring compulsory training is up to date.
* Assist management with compiling reports and statistics for client meetings and monthly report submissions.
* Liaise with management to resolve any issues that may arise during shifts and make decisions as appropriate.
* Report any problems or concerns relating to Security staff actively.
* Act as the security point of contact on a rotational basis with the Head of Security at weekends.
* Engage with, and support other departments in managing tasks that are within the security team's remit.
* Ensure that minimum staffing levels are adhered to and that team members maintain an effective work‑life balance.
* Support the Head of Security in maintaining an effective training plan, ensuring all staff have the skills necessary to conduct their role.
* Deploy resources in the most cost‑effective and efficient way, prioritising incidents and implementing appropriate working practices.
* Implement practical and sustainable changes that result in improved security personnel motivation.
* Work in conjunction with the Security Manager to meet and exceed site specific KPIs and SLAs.
* Manage own workload and time effectively whilst maintaining knowledge of skills and competency required.
* Work smart, demonstrate a proactive work ethic, motivate team spirit and maintain good morale to ensure best performance, and maintain levels of motivation throughout the workforce.
* Challenge inappropriate, negative and unacceptable behaviour, maintain staff confidentiality and uphold and enforce Mitie values of Loyalty, Integrity and Respect.
* Support the team in all aspects of development and training and ensure all team members have a current Personal Development Plan (PDP).
* Support the Head of Security in effectively dealing with data requests in line with client operating procedures and GDPR.
* Liaise with retailers, guests and key stakeholders over any security matters or concerns, dealing with complaints initially.
* Provide operational knowledge to lead the Security Supervisors and manage the site security provision.
* Undertake any other reasonable task required by management.
Essential Skills & Experience
* Good communication skills, both written and oral.
* Excellent time management.
* Attention to detail and proactive.
* Demonstrable proactive and professional approach to security.
* Ability to write incident reports to a high standard.
* Previous experience in a supervisor's role.
* Knowledge of health and safety legislation and policy.
* Five years' experience in the security industry.
* SIA licence in CCTV and door supervisor.
* First‑aid at work qualification.
* IOSH Managing Safely qualification.
* Flexible approach to working hours, including weekends and bank holidays.
* Willingness to take any further appropriate training.
* Ability to work under own initiative.
Desirable
* Retail experience.
* Experience balancing operational and strategic priorities.
