LGV / Plant Engineering Mechanic Tilbury ï¸ About the Role We are currently recruiting for an experienced LGV / Plant Engineering Mechanic to join a well-established operation within the forestry, logistics, and heavy transport sector. This is a key hands-on engineering position responsible for maintaining, repairing, and ensuring the reliability of a mixed fleet of HGVs, LGVs, and plant equipment operating in a high-demand, time-critical environment. The successful candidate will play a vital role in keeping vehicles operational, minimising downtime, and supporting continuous site activity across a 24/7 operational network. Key Responsibilities • Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) on HGVs and plant equipment • Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic faults • Complete safety inspections and ensure all vehicles meet DVSA compliance standards • Respond to breakdowns and urgent repair requirements when needed • Work across a range of heavy vehicles and specialist plant machinery • Maintain accurate maintenance records and service documentation • Support operational uptime across a busy transport and logistics fleet • Work collaboratively with other engineers and site teams to ensure efficiency Requirements • Minimum Level 3 City & Guilds (or equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering • Proven experience working with HGVs / LGVs / heavy goods vehicles (essential) • Strong background in diagnostics, fault finding, and heavy vehicle repair • Experience with hydraulics, engines, braking systems, and electrical systems preferred • Plant machinery experience advantageous but not essential • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced operational environment • Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety and compliance Salary & Benefits • £18.50 – £20.00 per hour (depending on experience) • Overtime paid at time and a half (40 hours) • Competitive hourly structure with flexibility based on skill level • Long-term, stable employment opportunity • Opportunity to work within a large-scale, high-output transport environment Working Hours • Monday to Friday • 06:00 – 18:00 (typical 12-hour operational shift pattern) • Occasional requirement for 8-hour shifts depending on operational needs • Work within a 24/7 operational site environment, requiring flexibility at times Apply Now If you are an experienced LGV / Plant Mechanic looking for a long-term role within a busy, high-volume transport and engineering environment, we want to hear from you.
