Overview
Portsmouth Hospitals University NHS Trust seeks a Paediatric High Dependency Practice Educator to develop others, shape high‑quality care, and support staff to deliver safe and confident practice in a paediatric high‑acuity environment.
Band 6: £39,959 - £48,117 • Part time 22.5 hours per week • Permanent contract.
Key Responsibilities
* Provide bedside clinical teaching, coaching, and support to nurses working within the paediatric high dependency pathway
* Facilitate the development of competence in managing acutely unwell children and those requiring enhanced monitoring
* Support staff through formal and informal learning: simulations, skills sessions, competency sign‑off, and reflective practice
* Promote a positive learning culture that empowers staff and builds confidence
* Assist with identifying learning needs and developing structured training plans
* Ensure best practice, guidelines, and quality standards are embedded in day‑to‑day clinical care
* Contribute to service development and education initiatives that enhance safety and quality
* Support new starters, student nurses, and internationally educated nurses as they transition into practice
Qualifications
Essential
* Current RNC registration with NMC and any other relevant post registration qualifications
* Evidence of Level 6 Study
* Substantial clinical experience in a paediatric high dependency setting
* Practice assessor and practice supervisor skills
* Demonstrable competency in assessing, planning, delivering and evaluating care for children requiring high dependency support
Desirable
* Level 7 (Master’s level) study in education, advanced practice, leadership, or paediatric specialty
* Formal teaching qualification (e.g., PGCert in Education)
* Experience delivering simulation‑based training
* Experience developing education packages or competency frameworks
* Leadership or quality improvement training
