Overview

Are you looking for a new challenge in an NHS Trust that is inclusive, vibrant and celebrates success? We are recruiting for an experienced Reporting Sonographer (3 years post graduate experience) to join our Community Radiology Services. The post is full-time, with options for part-time hours, job share and flexible working arrangements. The successful applicant will work at Lewes Victoria Hospital, Uckfield Community Hospital and Crowborough War Memorial Hospital and will be supported by a Radiographic Assistant. The ideal candidate should be skilled in general, gynae and small parts ultrasound, with experience in vascular scanning (DVT) considered advantageous. CPD is supported and the post holder will participate in regular peer review meetings and audit with an external NHS provider. The post holder will also support leadership, supervision and line management of a team of Radiographers, Sonographers and Radiographic Assistants.


Main duties

To undertake a range of ultrasound examinations in line with local, regional and national guidelines. To organise own workload, assess and report ultrasound examinations to determine pathology. To justify ultrasound requests. To communicate with patients, clients and visitors in a polite and respectful manner, taking into account barriers to understanding. To liaise with the multidisciplinary team in a professional manner relating to patient management and care. To notify the referrer of abnormal findings within guidelines. To work independently within departmental protocols and make informed clinical decisions in the absence of a Radiologist. To support leadership, supervision and line management of a team of Radiographers, Sonographers and Radiographic Assistants. To undertake other duties as requested by the line manager, including project work, internal job rotation and absence cover.

Qualifications
Degree level qualification in radiography or equivalent professional radiography qualification
Post Graduate Certificate / Diploma / MSc in Medical Ultrasound

Experience
Experienced Sonographer, 3 years post graduate experience; experience of advanced ultrasound clinical practice (e.g. MSK, vascular, interventional); experience supervising and training Sonographers and trainee Sonographers at M-level; knowledge of IR(ME)R 2017; experience using PACS, RIS and CR systems at key user level.

Skills and knowledge
Ability to communicate highly complex information; interpret ultrasound scans and report on patients\' conditions; handle challenging situations; organise daily workload; IT skills to record and generate clinical observations; valid UK driving licence; advanced ultrasound skills with ability to manage own caseload; ability to work autonomously and organise the ultrasonography service.
