Overview:

Are you passionate about supporting students with severe autism and profound learning needs? Do you have the empathy, resilience, and practical experience to work in a specialist primary setting with children requiring high levels of sensory and communication support? We would love to hear from you!

We are recruiting a dedicated Autism Support Assistant to join a specialist primary resource provision in Wolverhampton. This long-term, full-time role involves supporting pupils aged 4-11 with Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD) and Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), many of whom are sensory-seeking, non-verbal, or use alternative communication methods such as PECS and Makaton.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Provide 1:1 and small group support in a structured, sensory-rich classroom environment.

2. Support non-verbal students using communication aids like PECS, visual timetables, and Makaton.

3. Facilitate sensory-based activities to help students regulate, focus, and engage in learning.

4. Collaborate with SEN teachers, therapists, and support staff to deliver EHCP targets.

5. Promote emotional regulation, personal care (if required), and daily routines with sensitivity and professionalism.

6. Maintain a safe, inclusive, and calm learning environment tailored to each child's needs.

Key Requirements:

1. Experience supporting students with severe ASD, SLD, or complex needs in educational, residential, or care settings.

2. Understanding of sensory processing difficulties, autism-related behaviors, and communication needs.

3. Resilient, patient, adaptable, with a nurturing and proactive approach.

4. Confidence in managing challenging behaviors using positive support strategies.

5. Experience with Makaton, PECS, or similar communication methods is highly desirable.

6. Team Teach or other de-escalation training (training can be provided if needed).

What We Offer:

1. Competitive daily rate of £97 - £120.

2. Ongoing CPD and specialist SEN training opportunities.

3. A warm, welcoming, and supportive team.

4. The opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of students with complex needs.

This role begins in September. Interviews are currently taking place. If you are seeking a rewarding position where every day counts, we would love to hear from you.
