GATEWAY UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT JOB DESCRIPTION: RESOURCE SPECIALIST TEACHER DEFINITION: 100% time Resource Specialist Teacher. DIRECTLY RESPONSIBLE TO: Site Administrator or Designee and Director of Special Education. IMMEDIATE SUBORDINATES: Any assigned Classified Staff. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Participates regularly on the School Assessment Team which reviews and monitors the progress of referred students in order to meet their individual needs.
Participates in the formal student assessment process for Special Education eligibility, review and placement.
Participates with the Psychologist, School Principal, and appropriate District professional staff (along with the parents) in the development and implementation of the Individual Education Plan for each formally identified student.
Evaluates (on an ongoing basis) the needs of assigned pupils in order to design and implement an instructional program based upon the needs.
Provides specialized instructional activities which establish, maintain and reinforce appropriate interpersonal and learning behaviors.
Maintains a variety of pupil records; anecdotal records for each pupil which outlines their educational problems; and the solution plan including basic learning steps.
Creates a functional and attractive room environment for learning through displays, bulletin boards and interest centers.
Regularly communicates with regular classroom teachers regarding students in the Resources Specialist Program.
Participates in curriculum and other developmental programs within the school of assignment and/or on the district level.
Administers group standardized tests in accordance with District Programs.
Supervises pupils in out-of-classroom activities during the assigned working day.
Participates in curriculum and other developmental programs.
Participates with other professional staff members in the school's extra-curricular activities.
Serves as a member of the School Site Assessment Team for the admission, placement and evaluation of pupils in the Chapter I and Alternative Learning Center Programs.
Shares in the sponsorship of pupil activities and participation in faculty committees.
Participates in district sponsored school activities and events including but not limited to Back to School Night, Open House, Home School Club events, etc.

Must have the ability to work effectively with professional and paraprofessional personnel in carrying out an effective instructional program.
Must have knowledge of behavioral management techniques.
Must possess knowledge of educational, instructional and behavioral trends related to students identified as having special learning needs.
