This is a unique and exciting opportunity to shape the future of private healthcare in Bristol. Northwood Hospital will open in September as a premier, purpose-built private facility, conveniently located near the M32 and Bristol Parkway station. With two state-of-the-art operating theatres, an eight-bed inpatient ward, a six-bed day case suite, and three consulting rooms, the hospital will initially focus on plastic and reconstructive surgery, with plans to expand into gynaecology, urology, and orthopaedics.

Job Purpose
You will provide support and assistance to a Registered Nurse by undertaking a range of assigned administrative and clinical duties, including being responsible for taking patient's vital signs (blood pressure, pulse, oxygen saturations levels), performing ECGs, swabs and checking urine samples. You will ensure there is continual feedback to the Registered nurse about the patient's condition.
You will work flexibly across the hospital, on the ward and in the out-patient team, to meet service needs.
Duties
Your key responsibilities
Administrative duties will include:-
Greeting and assisting patients as they arrive
Maintaining patient records, ensuring data recorded is accurate, legible (if handwritten), recorded in a timely manner, kept up to date and appropriately filed in accordance with data protection policies
Checking clinical rooms and the outpatient environment are clean and adequately stocked
Assisting with stock ordering, receipt of deliveries, storing appropriately and replenishing stock within area of work
Safely dispose of clinical waste as per health and safety policies
Handling patient and relative enquiries both face-to-face and over the phone effectively, with a focus on high quality customer care.
Checking the readiness for use of emergency / special equipment, and ensure all equipment in use is in good working order
Attending all required training, meetings and staff briefings as required during working hours
Clinical Duties will include:-
Providing a chaperone service for clinicians during patient examinations and procedures, providing comfort and support
Assisting clinicians with setting up and preparing for procedures
Supporting a range of clinical services including ECGs, phlebotomy, general observations of vital signs
Undertaking a variety of manual handling tasks safely and with appropriate training and risk assessments in place, including moving and handling patients safely (e.g helping patients transfer from beds to the operating theatre and back, lifting patients in theatre, helping patients if they have fallen, aiding patients with self-care including transfers from the toilet / commode back to a chair or bed), carrying or moving medical equipment, carrying food and beverages, and collecting deliveries and moving them to the correct storage facility.
Assisting the patient by undertaking fundamental care tasks, including daily care and personal hygiene, eating and drinking, mobility needs, washing under direct or indirect supervision.
Providing regular and timely updates to registered staff regarding the patient's clinical condition, reporting concerns urgently to the Nurse in Charge
General
Work in accordance with the Hospital's values at all times

Undertake all training required for your role, in a timely manner, including but not limited to mandatory training such as basic life support, moving and handling, and fire safety training.

Essential Person Specifications
To be successful in this role you will need to:
Have prior experience in a similar role / Previous experience of providing high standards of customer service to the public / Previous experience working in a healthcare setting
Be qualified at NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in Health and Social Care, or Care Certificate
Be qualified at GCSE English and Maths (grades A-C), or Functional Skills in English and Maths (Level 1 or 2)
Have the ability and willingness to undertake appropriate training
Possess good IT skills, with experience of using healthcare computer systems
Able to manage your own time effectively, prioritising work as appropriate
Have knowledge and awareness of patient confidentiality, health and safety, equality, diversity and human rights regulations as appropriate to your role
Possess excellent communication skills, able to clearly and effectively communicate to colleagues, and patients and families to ensure high standards of care, treatment, service or support as appropriate to your role
Able to demonstrate initiative and solve problems commensurate with the level of your role
Have excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to work well as part of a team
Demonstrate an approachable and compassionate response to patients
To remain calm and focussed in pressured situations
Be reliable with good time-keeping
Able to meet the physical demands of the role as outlined above
