Principal Cloud Engineer
WRK digital is excited to partner with Skipton Building Society to support the growth of their cloud engineering and architecture teams. As their team expands, they are seeking a Principal Cloud Engineer to lead the development, implementation, and optimization of the Society’s Azure Cloud infrastructure.
The Principal Cloud Engineer will be a technical leader, staying at the forefront of technological advancements, providing strategic technical direction, and actively engaging in hands-on work. This role enables the organization to leverage Azure cloud technologies effectively to deliver high-quality services and customer outcomes.

Responsibilities:
* Ensure the reliability, security, and scalability of Azure Cloud solutions, aligning with the Society’s goals of innovation, efficiency, and compliance.
* Serve as the technical expert in Azure Cloud solutions, infrastructure as code (IaC), automation, and security, influencing design and implementation decisions.
* Define and enforce best practices, ensuring cloud engineering teams adopt industry-leading Azure methodologies and adhere to security, compliance, and performance standards.
* Promote DevOps and SRE principles to enhance operational efficiency, resilience, and service reliability.
* Collaborate with IT leadership, Security, Engineering, and Data teams to align cloud strategy with digital transformation objectives.
* Implement security best practices, ensuring operational resilience, regulatory compliance, and adherence to frameworks like Zero Trust, ISO27001, and GDPR.
* Mentor engineering teams, sharing knowledge and supporting their professional development.
Requirements:
* Extensive experience with Azure Cloud services such as Azure Networking, Integration, and Data Services.
* Proficiency in automation and IaC tools like PowerShell, Terraform, Bicep, and Azure DevOps pipelines.
* Strong solution architecture skills for designing scalable, high-performance cloud solutions.
* Leadership experience, with a history of leading engineering teams.
* Deep understanding of cloud security principles, Zero Trust architecture, and relevant regulatory frameworks.
* Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills, with the ability to translate technical concepts into business value.
* Proven experience with DevOps and CI/CD practices.
