Overview of the job
This is an operational role directly supervising work groups of offenders serving a community sentence. The post holder will be responsible for all work‑site supervision tasks, and may be required to drive service vehicles to transport people or equipment. The role involves working with service users to ensure that tasks are carried out to the best of their ability and demonstrating good practice where necessary.
Working pattern
On a typical day you will spend up to seven hours supervising a group at a community payback unpaid work placement. The role requires regular weekend working and may involve some evenings. Weekend work is paid at a higher rate of 50%.
Key responsibilities
* Supervise offenders during community work placements.
* Ensure site supervision tasks are completed safely and effectively.
* Provide guidance and support to offenders to enable them to meet their objectives.
* Operate service vehicles where necessary, maintaining a full UK manual driving licence.
Qualifications & requirements
* Full UK manual driving licence.
* Right to work in the UK and Civil Service.
* Eligibility for Skilled Worker visa prior to 22 July 2025 (the role is not eligible for a new Skilled Worker visa).
Employment and pay
Successful applicants will receive a starting salary of £26,475 (pro‑rata). Pay progression is possible through the Competency Based Framework (CBF) and annual pay band increases in line with Civil Service guidance.
