Overview
RBSL is developing, integrating and testing the UK’s next Main Battle Tank – Challenger 3. The Project Manager – CR3 Vehicle Trials will lead the planning, coordination and delivery of all vehicle trials activities within the programme, ensuring readiness, execution and reporting across a complex trials environment.
Responsibilities
* Track and report progress against key trial milestones, maintain dashboards and propose recovery plans.
* Build and manage detailed trial schedules in MS Project, integrating dependencies from engineering, procurement and logistics.
* Validate resource forecasts for trials teams and suppliers; approve labour bookings and monitor utilisation.
* Own the trials risk register, lead monthly reviews and implement mitigation actions, supporting programme‑level risk reporting.
* Monitor trial‑related spend and report variances; approve purchase requisitions in line with budget constraints.
* Chair weekly trials progress meetings with engineering, logistics and quality leads, acting as primary point of contact for DE&S and Army.
* Produce monthly trials performance reports for Programme Manager, including KPIs, milestone status, risk position, cost performance and board input.
* Coordinate facility readiness, transport planning and equipment availability for trials execution.
* Assess impact of scope changes on schedule and cost; update baselines with Project Controls.
* Define work packages for Senior Project Professionals and mentor junior PM staff.
Qualifications
* Minimum of 5 years UK residency to obtain full Security Clearance.
* Proven experience in project management within engineering, defence or trials environments.
* Degree‑level qualification or equivalent apprenticeship.
* Recognised PM qualification (APM PMQ or equivalent desirable).
* Strong knowledge of project management tools and techniques – scheduling, risk and issue management, change control, budgeting, forecasting and project controls.
* Familiarity with SAP and project control systems.
* Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills; strong presentation abilities.
* Ability to resolve complex problems and manage conflicting priorities.
* Strong understanding of integrated scheduling and resource planning.
