About the Role
Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust is seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Visual Field Technician to join our Ophthalmology Department at Stoke Mandeville Hospital. This is a key clinical support role contributing to the delivery of high-quality patient care through visual field assessments and ophthalmic diagnostics.
Main duties of the job
1. Perform automated visual field tests using the Humphrey Field Analyser.
2. Accurately assess spectacle prescriptions using automated focimetry.
3. Clearly instruct and support patients throughout testing procedures.
4. Enter results into the electronic patient notes system and maintain accurate records.
5. Maintain and clean ophthalmic equipment and manage office supplies.
6. Work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.

EDUCATION, QUALIFICATIONS & TRAINING
Desirable criteria
7. Basic computer skills GCSE English or Equivalent
8. To have knowledge of the anatomy of the eye, medical background in Ophthalmology.
9. Knowledge of eye conditions and their appropriate treatment.
EXPERIENCE

SKILLS, ABILITIES & KNOWLEDGE
Essential criteria
13. Clear, concise verbal and written communication to ensure liaison with multi-disciplinary team, patients and carers and to ensure records are kept accurately and in a legible manner
14. Ability to communicate with staff and patients, this will include patients of varying mental and physical abilities and states of anxiety.
15. Courteous with all patients and staff, face to face and on the telephone
16. Ability to give clear instructions

21. The understanding and ability to maintain patient confidentiality
22. Manually dextrous in order to examine with speed and precision and minimal discomfort and to be able to record results accurately

SPECIAL CIRCUMSTANCES
Essential criteria
26. Able to travel to other sites (including Buckingham Hospital) and off site as necessary
