Job Purpose
To make a substantial and positive contribution to the strategic direction of the School/College by developing a research profile of international standard associated with the research themes of the School of Biodiversity One Health and Veterinary Medicine and by contributing to the delivery of an excellent student experience by delivering, organising and reviewing teaching and assessment processes associated with undergraduate teaching of veterinary anatomy. To actively engage in relationships with external stakeholders that advance knowledge exchange, public understanding and outreach.
Applications are invited from candidates demonstrating potential to become internationally recognised leaders with the research themes of the School of Biodiversity One Health and Veterinary Medicine. We are looking for a candidate who will complement our existing strengths in clinical veterinary medicine, evolutionary biology, animal physiology, and Veterinary Education and Scholarship with a demonstrable interest in using domestic mammals among their study systems. We are particularly interested in applications from candidates with an interest in veterinary anatomy.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
1. Contribute to the planning, organisation and delivery of veterinary anatomy teaching on undergraduate and/or postgraduate courses in accordance with the subject’s priorities including accepting responsibilities as co-ordinator for one or more modules/courses.
2. Contribute to the on-going development and design of the curriculum in a manner that supports a research-led and scholarly approach to student learning and assessment in the discipline and/or profession.
3. Participate fully in examination and other assessment processes, as appropriate, using a variety of methods and techniques and to provide effective, timely and appropriate feedback to students to support their learning.
4. Develop effective approaches to the use of learning technologies to support and enhance course delivery, course organisation, feedback and assessment. This may involve blended and/or online provision.
5. Contribute to the development of theory and practice in the subject area.
6. Develop and progress individual/joint research projects of international standard associated with the research themes of the School of Biodiversity One Health and Veterinary Medicine, with the support of a mentor, as required.
7. Write up research findings/outcomes for publication in leading journals for dissemination as appropriate, identifying potential sources and contributing to funding applications as an individual or team member.
8. Contribute fully to developing and enhancing the research profile of the School/College, including establishing a track record of high-quality publication.
9. Supervise individual student projects at undergraduate and/or postgraduate level, and to contribute to the supervision and training of postgraduate research students, as appropriate, to ensure their effective development.
10. Take on administrative or management roles and undertake any other reasonable duties within the subject/School as assigned by the Head of School.
11. Engage in continuing professional development activities as appropriate.
12. To contribute to the enhancement of the University’s international profile in line with the University’s Strategic Plan, World Changers Together.

* A1 PhD in a relevant subject area, or a veterinary degree registerable with the RCVS, or an equivalent qualification in a related discipline and/or teaching experience.

SBOHVM is home to researchers studying organismal biology and animal health across a diverse range of systems, approaches and disciplines with existing strengths in infectious disease, physiology, ageing, veterinary epidemiology, and evolution among others. The post holder would be based on the University of Glasgow’s Garscube campus, where the majority of veterinary teaching and research infrastructure is located. This includes the Small Animal Hospital (a recent £15M investment) and our Veterinary Diagnostic Services, offering excellent opportunities for collaborative research at the clinical and translational interface, especially with respect to companion animals. Other relevant units located on the Garscube campus include the Glasgow Equine Hospital & Practice the Scottish Centre for Production Animal Health & Food Safety, the CRUK’s Beatson Institute for Cancer Research and the MRC-University of Glasgow Centre for Virus Research. The post holder will further benefit from recent College investment and reorganisation of shared research facilities, providing access to high-level equipment and support for protein, molecular and cellular analyses as well as bioinformatics and research computing.

Terms and Conditions
1. Salary will be Grade 7, £41,064 - £46,049 per annum.
2. This post is full time and open ended.
