About the Role
With over 50 years of experience in the rail industry, we have delivered complex multidisciplinary projects worldwide. Our expertise includes depots, operations, maintenance analytics, and asset management across all aspects of rail, including transport, technical assessments, sustainability, and systems infrastructure.
We are seeking a Senior Planning Engineer to join our Light Rail Team in Birmingham. This role is vital for developing our delivery capabilities.
You will be responsible for developing and maintaining a robust control of the planning schedule, providing active support to project and programme teams in planning and reporting activities. We seek a collaborative individual with strong leadership and communication skills, who enjoys multitasking, thrives in a busy environment, and performs well under pressure.
Key Responsibilities
1. Ensure that capital investment programme schedule information is accurate and timely.
2. Develop the scope and work breakdown structure for the delivery schedule, including capturing key assumptions.
3. Define and control the schedule baseline for our capital delivery schedule, projects, programmes, and portfolios, ensuring they are realistic and incorporate lessons learned from previous projects.
4. Collaborate with Project Controls Specialists to ensure consistency and integration of schedule, budget, and risk baselines.
5. Manage the framework for maintaining schedule interdependencies across projects, programmes, and portfolios.
6. Maintain forecasting frameworks for critical resources to identify and mitigate bottlenecks.
7. Establish and improve templates, activity norms, and standard work for schedules.
8. Review and report schedule progress regularly, identifying risks, issues, and opportunities.
9. Produce and enhance schedule management information for monthly reporting cycles.
You must have the right to work in the UK.
What We Need From You
* Expert-level knowledge of Primavera (P6) and MS Project.
* Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
* Degree qualification, ideally.
* NVQ Level 3 or equivalent (A-level).
* Good technical understanding.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
* Strong planning and organizational skills, with attention to detail.
* Ability to interface effectively with all levels of client organizations.
* Experience in developing and improving planning processes, procedures, and systems.
* A logical mindset and methodical approach.
* Team player with the ability to meet tight deadlines.
