A well‑organised and resilient individual is needed to join the Children and Family Services Business Support Team as a Business Support Officer – Finance. The role requires the development of high‑quality financial and administrative support and systems.
About the Role
The successful candidate will take day‑to‑day responsibility for specific Children and Family Services budgets, including budget preparation and monitoring of income and expenditure. This involves collecting, inputting, sorting and extracting financial information and providing budgetary control across the Service. The role includes provision of financial information to support budget monitoring arrangements, estimate and strategic preparation, strategic decision making, and year‑end closing of accounts. The candidate will use LCC financial systems, including Excel spreadsheets and other council software, ensuring data required for auditing is collected, collated and analysed efficiently. Reports will be produced and presented to senior staff with advice on CFS policies and strategy, ensuring local policies and practices align with council procedures.
Additionally, the candidate will ensure appropriate levels of support for staff, including prioritisation and workload organisation, and daily coverage. The role involves line‑management duties such as supervision, APR and APR review meetings, absence management, and staff training. The role provides backup to colleagues across service areas and supports handling urgent work.
About You
To apply, you must be able to evidence how you meet the following criteria:
* Recognised academic qualifications (e.g., GCSE, A‑Levels, vocational qualifications, professional or further education) and training in ICT applications – Microsoft Word, Excel, Publisher, PowerPoint, Access, etc.
* Experience in staff development and delivery of training.
* Previous experience of collecting, collating data, performing calculations, and writing reports.
* Experience working to strict timescales and meeting deadlines.
* Proven experience managing resources and resolving administrative problems.
* Experience of financial administration and budgets, including monitoring, control, and use of electronic purchasing systems and handling and recording of cash.
* Ability to work independently, take personal responsibility, and ensure accuracy of information.
