Construction Project Manager, Civils and Transport Delivery
Join us as the Construction Project Manager, Civils and Transport Delivery at Bath & North East Somerset Council. The role is part of our Capital Programme and Project Delivery Team, delivering transformative transport and civil engineering projects across the historic city of Bath and its surrounding communities.
About the role
We are seeking an experienced Project Manager with a proven track record in transport and/or highways civil engineering, construction design, planning and technical project management. The successful candidate will manage a fast‑paced programme of implementation, engage with contractors, oversee works orders and deliver projects such as the Somer Valley Links, Active Travel programmes, Liveable Neighbourhoods, Residents Parking Zones, and the Bath City Centre Sustainable Transport Corridor. The role supports our commitment to improve people’s lives, drive capital investment, and deliver sustainable, high‑quality infrastructure.
Responsibilities
* Lead the planning, design, and delivery of civil engineering and transport construction projects within the Capital Construction Programme.
* Coordinate and liaise with contractors, local authorities and stakeholders to secure approvals, manage works orders and ensure project scope and budget are maintained.
* Provide technical support in design reviews, feasibility studies and risk assessments for all programme workstreams.
* Manage project schedules, deliverables and progress reports to senior leadership and the wider Sustainable Communities team.
* Maintain high safety and quality standards across all works, ensuring compliance with statutory and council regulations.
* Support the delivery of outcomes that enhance resilience, environmental outcomes, and meet net‑zero targets for the council.
Qualifications
* Proven experience as a Senior Civil Engineering or Construction Project Manager in transport, highways or similar sectors.
* Strong knowledge of UK planning, procurement and technical specification processes.
* Demonstrated ability to manage complex projects with multiple stakeholders and tight timelines.
* Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to influence and motivate teams.
* Relevant professional registration or qualifications (e.g., RICS, ICE, CIOB) preferred but not mandatory if practical experience is demonstrated.
