Senior Engineer - Highways
Location: Peterborough, Cambridgeshire Job Type: Contract Duration: 6 Months Start Date: Immediate (This Coming Monday) Pay: Competitive, dependent on experience (CIS or PAYE available)
Are you an experienced Senior Engineer with a strong background in highways, available for an immediate start in Peterborough?
We have an urgent requirement for a skilled Senior Engineer to join a key highways project in the Peterborough area. This is a 6-month contract role offering a competitive rate and an immediate start for the right candidate, with the flexibility of being paid via CIS or PAYE.
A proven track record on UK highways projects is essential for this position.
Key Responsibilities:
* Oversee and manage specific sections of the works, ensuring compliance with design specifications and quality standards.
* Supervise and mentor site engineers and junior staff.
* Undertake complex setting out where required and ensure all engineering control is accurate.
* Manage technical queries and liaise with designers, subcontractors, and the client.
* Produce and review method statements and risk assessments (RAMS).
* Manage all on-site Quality Assurance (QA), including undertaking inspections and checks, and ensuring all QA documentation and as-built records are completed accurately.
* Uphold and enforce stringent health and safety standards on site.
* Assist with short-term programming and monitoring of project progress.
Essential Skills & Experience:
* Demonstrable experience as a Senior Engineer on UK highways projects is a non-negotiable requirement.
* Proficiency with modern surveying equipment (Total Station, GPS).
* Strong technical knowledge of highways construction, materials, and specifications.
* A valid CSCS card is mandatory.
* A relevant qualification in Civil Engineering (HNC, HND, Degree).
* SMSTS or SSSTS is highly desirable.
* Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
