We are looking for an experienced Senior Platform Engineer to join our Engineering team in Wigan. This is an exciting opportunity to work in a fast-moving, cloud-first environment where technology is constantly evolving. You’ll play a key role in designing, building, and delivering robust AWS-based infrastructure and services that enable our wider engineering teams to deliver high-quality software at pace. As a senior member of the team, you’ll work within a cross-functional environment and contribute across the full software development life cycle — from initial concept through to production deployment and ongoing reliability. What you’ll be doing: In this role, you’ll take ownership of designing and maintaining scalable, secure, and high-performing platform infrastructure. You’ll help shape architectural decisions, define design patterns, and ensure solutions meet the needs of both internal and external stakeholders. You’ll work closely with engineering teams to champion cloud-first development, implementing infrastructure as code and CI/CD pipelines that support rapid and reliable delivery. A key part of the role involves configuring, deploying, and monitoring containerised applications using Kubernetes, ensuring system stability and performance. You’ll also contribute to improving security, scalability, and capacity across the platform, while supporting the daily delivery of new software releases. Alongside hands-on technical work, you’ll collaborate with Senior Software Engineers and Product Owners on consumer-facing solutions, mentor junior and apprentice engineers, and take responsibility for diagnosing and resolving production issues to maintain system reliability. What we are looking for: We’re looking for a highly skilled platform engineer with strong experience delivering software and infrastructure across multiple environments. You’ll have proven expertise in cloud platforms (AWS preferred), infrastructure as code tools such as Terraform, and working within agile delivery teams. You should be confident writing clean, maintainable code in at least one of the following: C#, TypeScript/JavaScript, or Terraform. Experience deploying containerised applications into production using Kubernetes is essential, as is a strong understanding of scalable, highly available systems — particularly for web applications handling time-sensitive or high-traffic data. You’ll bring deep knowledge of modern web, mobile, and cloud technologies, along with experience working with databases and content management systems. A passion for continuous improvement, strong problem-solving skills, and the ability to analyse metrics to drive informed decisions are key to success in this role. Finally, you’ll be a collaborative team player who enjoys mentoring others, while also being a self-starter who can identify what needs to be done and see it through to completion. What’s in it for you? At the Tote you can expect a friendly working environment with a strong sense of teamwork and pride in what we do. Within this role you’ll develop a broad range of skills and experiences that can enhance your career at the Tote.
