Speech and Language Therapist (SaLT) – KS3 SEND Provision

Salary: Competitive (dependent on experience)

Reporting to: Deputy Headteacher / Therapy Lead
The Role
Our client is seeking a skilled and compassionate Speech and Language Therapist (SaLT) to join their specialist KS3 provision supporting pupils with additional needs.
This is a rewarding opportunity to work within a therapeutic education environment, delivering specialist speech and language support alongside strong pastoral care. The role focuses on supporting pupils with neurodiversity, including Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), and social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs.
The successful candidate will play a key role in assessing and supporting pupils’ communication needs, enabling them to engage in learning, develop confidence, and improve their social interaction and emotional expression.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical Practice
* Deliver specialist speech and language assessments and interventions for KS3 pupils
* Develop and implement individualised communication strategies and programmes
* Support pupils with expressive and receptive language, social communication, and interaction skills
* Produce detailed assessment reports and recommendations aligned with EHCP targets
Pupil Support & Engagement
* Support pupils to develop communication skills that enable engagement in learning
* Work directly with pupils in both individual and small group settings
* Use therapeutic approaches to support emotional regulation and social development
* Contribute to creating a safe, supportive, and communication-friendly environment
Collaboration & Training
* Work closely with teachers, support staff, and therapeutic teams to embed communication strategies across the provision
* Provide training, advice, and consultation to staff to support pupils’ communication needs
* Liaise with parents/carers and external professionals to ensure a consistent approach
* Contribute to multi-disciplinary planning and review meetings
Assessment & Reporting
* Monitor and evaluate pupil progress using appropriate outcome measures
* Maintain accurate, GDPR-compliant records and reports
* Contribute to EHCP reviews and provide professional recommendations
* Support risk assessments and ensure safe delivery of interventions
About the Pupils
Pupils within this provision often have complex needs, including autism and SEMH challenges. Many will have experienced disrupted education and require support with communication, emotional regulation, and social interaction.
The provision focuses on building communication skills, emotional literacy, and confidence to support engagement in learning and everyday life.
Candidate Profile
Essential requirements:
Recognised Speech and Language Therapy qualification
Registration with the HCPC
Membership of the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists (RCSLT)
Experience working with children and young people with SEND, particularly ASC and/or SEMH
Key skills and attributes:
Strong understanding of communication needs in neurodiverse pupils
Ability to develop and implement effective, personalised interventions
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
A collaborative and proactive approach to working within a multi-disciplinary team
Ability to build positive, trusting relationships with pupils
Commitment to safeguarding and inclusive practice
