Description: Hitachi Energy has an exciting opportunity for a Principal Consultant in Power Systems. You will develop advisory projects for major electricity sector agents, including distribution, transmission, retailers, and generators, helping them address regulatory, economic, and electricity challenges. You will also build and maintain relationships with internal and external customers to support profitable growth and satisfaction.
Please note: This position is hybrid (2/3 days in Birmingham office). We cannot provide visa sponsorship for this role.
How you’ll make an impact
* Identify opportunities for new and repeat consulting business, building networks for information exchange.
* Create value for customers and the organization, ensuring successful transactions, contracts, and proposals through sales techniques and negotiation.
* Propose research & development projects, supporting project management, production, and ongoing support activities.
* Conduct risk assessments and ensure delivery as per contracts.
* Lead in process and tool enhancements, coaching and developing colleagues.
Your background
* Master’s degree in electrical engineering, power systems, or similar; advanced degrees preferred.
* Fluent in English, both written and spoken.
* Over 10 years’ experience in power systems design, understanding, and performance.
* Experience with consulting on power systems studies, solutions on BESS, FACTS, E-mobility, smart city, and transmission/distribution planning.
* Expertise in energy policy, regulation, and equipment knowledge.
* Experience advising private and public sectors on regulation, operation, and strategy at national and international levels.
* Strong customer relationship skills, commercial acumen, and negotiation skills.
* Proficiency with power systems analysis software (PSS/E, DIgSILENT Power Factory, PSCAD, ETAP, NEPLAN).
* Ability to apply technical and business consulting in the power market, creating market opportunities.
* Knowledge of the electric power industry, systems, and equipment.
* Analytical, proactive, and self-motivated problem solver.
